Nope, two systems here 8 and 8.1, both rock solid on wireless.

I am running mixed Win 7, two NAS and one 8.1.
The 8.1 drops connection and has to be reset about every power down function. If it sleeps, reboots or restarts if forgets the settings and sometimes replaces the wireless driver. The Microsoft driver does not work, so I have to use the manufacturer's Asus ROG 750 is the hardware.
Glad yours are working, the Windows 8 forums is full of complaints, but no help.

Gotta be a duff driver I would think. Guess you've looked for an update? Could always get a plugin adapter and disable the inbuilt. The two systems here are a 7 yr old Medion MD8818 which, unusually for a desktop at that time, came with an inbuilt adapter, and a Thinkpad E335

No issues here with wireless dropping on my unit, with a Realtek chipset. Most likely you are talking 1% of 1% that are using their units, trying to either connect with a A/P that is too far away, failing equipment for the A/P, or they have the power turned way down on the A/P.

Re: 8.1 networking is not the problem?

    Update...
I upgraded to Win7 and no change.
I tried settings and three drivers in 8.1 then went to 7.

The laptop is an Asus G750JX which comes with a Broadcom 802.11ac wireless. The Gateway laptop it is replacing has 902.11g I think, never had a problem with it and it still gets over 2Mb/sec downloads. New Asus is 150k/sec to 100k/sec (1/20th the speed).
Router is 2Wire and it does not seem to play well with the Asus. Changing the channel and other settings has little effect.
Son has 802.11ac router, going to take the Asus there and see if speed improves.

What 2-wire/Pace RG do you have? As for not playing well with the Asus, have you had any issues with connections on the Asus on other Wireless networks? Using inSSIDer, what kind of channel congestion do you have around you? What channel is your RG set for?

I have found Channel 1 to not be as congested in my area. I do use a Trendnet TEW690AP Wireless-N Access Point for all wireless connection in my home. The only thing I use my 2-wire/Pace 3800hgv-b RG for, is three devices that I need Wireless B & G for. Everything else in my house, connects to the two Wireless-N A/P's that I have in opposite corners of my house.

If your Asus has AC, you are better to go ahead and purchase a Wireless-AC A/P, and connect it to a 10/100/1000mbps switch, along with all other hard wired equipment. It helps if you are moving files across the network, also helps with congestion across the network, when you have someone streaming movies, or downloading large files.
