What's up with the forum?

If I do anything other than refresh the forum page I'm on it logs me out, even just clicking my forum shortcut logs me out. Sure this behaviour is new.

What browser are you using? My advice would be to try entering the forum using another type of browser and then see if the same exact problems happen again with the other browser as well.

I just now tried to replicate the problem you mentioned using four separate browsers: Internet Explorer, Chome, Maxthon and Firefox but it did not happen in my case.

They all worked fine, thus far. Since this is a very new type of behavior as you put it, have you recently made any changes any of your browser's settings?

The reason I ask is because sometimes a browsers settings will allow users to clean up (history, cookies, etc.) on exit and this might be causing what you are currently experiencing.

Well you seem to be on the right track as it doesn't do it in IE9. The problem is in Firefox and I think this may have started after the latest update to 25.0. I certainly haven't changed any settings, which are at default.

I need to boot another system and see if it's in FF there too.

It's the same with FF 25.0 on a different system. I have set up sync in FF in the last few days - wonder if that may be behind it :confused

It isn't sync behind it so looks like FF 25.0 in which case others should have the same issue ?

If the problem persists or you ever you need help or have a problem with Firefox, you might want to visit firefox support as well as here at MajorGeeks for a wider and more relevant audience.

FireFox 25 is fairly new and from what I understand many, many people have had problems thus far. Therefore I'd also suggest that you save that support webpage to "favorites" for future reference.

Side Note: Also, you might look over all of the settings in FF currently before posting back in here and in the firefox support forums.

Well the problem certainly isn't with the forum as I at first assumed but I was hoping for constructive feedback as I certainly don't need lessons in how to get support!

Oh, sorry about that, Earthling... I didn't mean it that way, really. I don't know anything about your qualifications at all. I just thought that since I too have the latest Firefox 25 installed and could not replicate the problem that you're having; you might want to cast a wider net by using the Firefox support forum as well as in here, that's all.

In any case, one other thought occurred to me, and that is: do you sign in anywhere else on the web just as you do here in the forum? If you do, I would try that and see if the same problem persists on that site as well. Since it is not a happening with your IE9 browser, and then is obviously a problem with the currently installed Firefox browser itself. Or maybe it was just a bad update. Have you thought of uninstalling it and installing it over again?

Kind of rude to someone trying to help you, heh.

Don't forget, you were the one who posted the question.

I have to come back to this as all my tests are indicating that there is some incompatibility between the forum software and Firefox 25.0 and that the problem is peculiar to the MG forum. I can't see where else I can post this.

If I'm signed in on a tab and go somewhere else then when I hit the Back button I find I've been signed out, and if I'm signed in reading a thread and hit my favs link to the top of the forum then once again I've been signed out. And for good measure when I had finished typing this and hit the Submit button - yep - signed out.

I've established that this only happens with Firefox and only with this forum and is repeated across three systems here, A vista, a Win 7 and a Win 8 all having FF 25.0, synced. Four other forums are fine, as are IE and Chrome, and all Firefox settings are at default.

As Yul Brynner famously said in the King and I, 'tis a puzzlement'.

Yeah, that's a Firefox thing. It happens to me on another forum I visit. I don't do MG on FF, so I haven't experienced it here.

Well I couldn't really see how three systems here could be the only ones - thanks. Perhaps I'd better use IE for MG in future, no probs with that..

    Chrome works fine as well.

    Safari also.

Interesting. I have not experienced that problem with any browser I use. It may be as previously stated that FF 25.0 is very new and therefore has some bugs. FF 24.10 running well here on Slackware Linux.

Weird. I use Chrome exclusively and have never seen that.

It works fine for me in Firefox 25. Your problem sounds as if it's caused by cookies more than anything else.

That's something that hadn't occurred to me but if I delete the three MG cookies it's still the same. However, as others using FF 25 don't have this prob, and as I've got it on three different synced systems, clearly it is something local. I'll just have to go on digging.

It's only recently I've switched from Chrome to FF as after two years of Chrome it was getting a bit erratic and slow.

Generally tick the "remember me" box as that helps with all forum issues.

I run Fx 28.0a Nightly, IE11, Chrome 30, not really added Opera to my browsers of late. But all work with MG ok.

But do the remember me box and see if that helps?

So simple, thank you David. Only recently switched to Firefox after a long run with Chrome but this problem was forcing me to use IE when visiting here. Ticking Remember Me isn't necessary in IE or Chrome but seems it is in FF. Relief!

Great glad this helped, tends too in many forum issues, weird but a quick fix.
