xpnetdiag.exe missing

    Hijackthis states that this file is missing and I read that this error could be a virus that poses as xpnetdiag and/or the Registry item for this file could be damaged, missing, etc. Also states "dmnstfy.dll is missing".

    There are lots of sites offering software to fix this error but I do not trust them. What should I do?

    FYI: I reinstalled XP SP3 three days ago because it was crashing, freezing, black screen. I had this xpnetdiag error before I reinstalled XP and just picked the error up again after reinstalling XP. How do I avoid this threat?

    (I'm using Malwarebytes, Spybot, Avast AV.)

    HijackThis has many bugs and this is one of them. This is a very big reason why you should only run HijackThis when requested by a real Windows and Malware Removal Expert. In reality, HijackThis is not all that helpful anymore. It does have some use when tied together with many other tools, but by itself, it is quite inadequate.

    Ignore what you are seeing and stop using it. If you have malware problems. See the below:
