Oh, I remember it so well. :( Was with a friend overseas in the evening listening to Radio Luxembourg, the American music station when the music suddenly stopped and it was announced that President JF Kennedy was shot. That was a shocker! Never thought at that time that something like that could happen in the USA. I thought of him him to be a vibrant man who brought some fresh air to the world.

Most of you won't probably remember since it was 50 years ago when that happened. I was in my early twenties and remember it every year.

I kept hearing same topic today
I'm not sure how negative thoughts like this one helps,

Maybe talking about where you were when someone died helps?
OK, I'll give it a shot....
but since I wasnt alive when jfk was put down...
I remember when my grandma died, I was 8yo, I was staying at her house and I went to wake her up and I kept shaking her...nothing.:p

I was at school - World History class.
The intercom came on. There was no announcement or any comment.
I think everyone was stunned as we listened to the report.
Then the bell rang and we were all in the hallways going to our last class.
A friend saw me passing by and asked, "Is he dead?"
    I said, "I don't know. I think so."

I also remember various scenes from the televised procession and the mourning family the day of the burial.
    The entire country was hurting.
The United States society and culture began to change at that time and has never fully recovered.

I was a little over two years old, and probably at home with my 6 year old brother . . . with both of us running my dear mother to sheer exhaustion (as she puts it :) ).

  6. Caliban

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

I was in my 3rd grade classroom. I remember my teacher got called out of the room, and when she returned she was crying, sobbing "What have they done?"

We watched the funeral procession as a family - I'm the oldest of 4 children, and I found things hard to understand so I imagine it was even harder for my siblings. Too young to be really sad (that came later), but I do remember the awesome spectacle of Black Jack becoming skittish, the chilling cadence as that caisson rolled by, "John-John"'s salute to his fallen father...

Dark, dark day in our history.

Those who dwell on other's negative thoughts are equally as negative.

That said, if you keep badgering people for their posts, I will start removing your harassment, so please stop it.

I was only four, but dimly remember it. Six days later, the 3rd December, my Mother was also dead, so it wasn't a great year for me :(.
I better remember Robert Kennedy's death on the 5th June, 1968, as well as M.L.K.'s death on 4th April the same year.
All part of the Joe Kennedy/Irish Mafia/Hoover/F.B.I. connection that effects us to this day.

I was 6 years old. I remember that my Dad was very upset about something. Later I understood the significance of that terrible day.

My thoughts were not negative, the actual shooting WAS.

I was not yet born, but more than once today while watching occasional coverage and/or the news I have noticed my mother with tears streaming down her face. It's 50 years after it happened. While I cannot actually know how it felt, I can hazard a pretty good guess.

    I don't remember.

Being three months old at the time, my memory then was a bit foggy.

You have a point; I can only think of someone in my life dying, not being taken from my life as he was.
Thanks for the reminder about how you don't know how you'd actually react until it happens to you.

I know. A lot of what he is critical of is not. It was a generalized statement, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Wasn't born, my only 'where were you' was September 11.

Being home alone at what I thought was the start of WW3 was quite memorable in a not so fun way.

I could finally understand what my Father meant when he talked about being huddled around the radio with friends during the Cuban missile crisis, minus the women crying thinking they were going to die in the next couple of minutes.

During the Cuban missile crisis the world seemed to stand still for some days. On 9/11 I saw on live TV the second plane going into the 2nd tower, what a horror.
