What's the latest on this stuff?

One of the redirects issues sez I have to reinstall Firefox and kill all preferences etc.

Has anything been done on this? I usually run Comomdo virus tools and Malware Bytes per MG instruction page. Please get me past the haystack of stickies and say the answer.

    (long time user of MG)

Ok I'll follow what you post. The difficulty is these facebook thingies seem to be coming directly from the website.

There's also that other one-- Adbye or something that presents a redirect to a bogus search engine. I believe that was the one that required losing all the Firefox settings. I use Mozbackup, but I have had settings in about:confic that I hardly even remember.

I have used a malware removal guide from MG in the past and just ran the suite not long ago plus Comodo.

Will see if I missed things.

    thanks for answering.

I have done all the procedures to the best of my understanding.

I made a text file of goored log and it had a couple entries. I looked for the marked log file it is supposed to generate but could not locate it with a search.

I did not understand where the main Malware thread is to post this for analysis but that is ready to send. I have not put it in here.

A fresh Malwarebytes is running now.

  5. loninappleton

    loninappleton Corporal

Now I have seen that redirect called All Search again. A screen pops up with a useless search engine in the middle of my browsing routine.

I do not know where it comes from but I believe this is the redirect for which a complete reinstall back to zero is needed for Firefox.

(If I could use Opera consistently with confidence, I would but I'm used to FFx for so many things.)

Do you yet have any of the requested logs for me to review? :confused

  7. loninappleton

    loninappleton Corporal

Yes I have Goored (which I found and is the same as the text file I made) plus the MBR log.

Anything else I have to hunt for.

Attachments fight with me on here so I can simply paste the Goored log
    when/where you want it.

If here is good I can do it here but I read that there's a malware master thread for this someplace-- or is there?

  8. Kestrel13!

Kestrel13! Super Malware Fighter - Major Dilemma Staff Member

I also want the logs from running:
    • Malware Bytes
    • Hitman Pro
    • RogueKiller
    • MGTools

Sorry but we don't allow inline pasting/posting. You will have to use another browser if having troubles.
You're in the right place, just get me the logs. :) I'll once them over and we'll see where to go from there.

  9. loninappleton

    loninappleton Corporal

I thought I had posted the Goored log but apparently it is not here. What's the trick? I followed the procedure, browsed to the file but that post is not here. I will have to redo it-- no wonder no response from you.

That box for attachments is too complicated.

Also of note: I also wanted to get rid of All Search in Firefox. While trying to get rid of 'throbbers' in Firefox (this junk never ends) I opened Chrome Edit. In the JS preferences tab there is a line with all search in it. I deleted that and will see if All Search reappears.

Is there anyone who can help you from your end? The attachments box is easy, you click on Manage Attachments > click Browse > find the files I have requested that you upload, click open and upload. Then make your post. :) Without those logs I'm requesting, I'm about as much use to you as a glass eye.

I recall another time I tried to post a screen shot and file size was too big and I only knew how to use that one program.

This would not be a size problem then?

I will take the plain text file, use the upper browse button which I did the other time and shut down any processes I have going. Then I'll watch for the posted message.

    Erf.

Do I have to redo the Goored already submitted?

Malwarebytes is running now. I also have MBRCcheck but that is not on your list.

No!! I do not want duplicates. No point. We ask that you run programs once only. So as long as you follow instructions everything should be smooth sailing. :)

I now have the logs for Hitman Pro, Rogue Killer and Malwarebytes.

MGTools has a folder in c:\

I do not see how to run it. For a moment I got a DOS box. In Windows XP is there a run command to execute this dos program?

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode.

Re run Hitman and have it delete all of the Potential Unwanted Programs.

Did you indeed take action on the items Malware Bytes found? It says no action taken. Rescan with it for me and attach the log once done whether it finds anything or not.

Are you deliberately set up to use a proxy? This is showing in the RogueKiller log:

    • [FF][PROXY] x9kylsd2.default : user_pref("network.proxy.type", 4); -> FOUND
If you are not set to use one, or don't know what one is then please include it in the fix below. (It will be under the heading/tab "web browsers".

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the web browsers tab and locate these 3 detections:

    • [FF][PROXY] x9kylsd2.default : user_pref("network.proxy.type", 4); -> FOUND

Place a checkmark next to this item, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [HijackThis startup scan] C:\MGtools\HijackThis.exe /startupscan
    • O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-21-2425431494-2242438602-470186999-1005\..\Run: [HijackThis startup scan] C:\MGtools\HijackThis.exe /startupscan (User '?')

    • O4 - Startup: _uninst_10551530.lnk = C:\Users\XMS\AppData\Local\Temp\_uninst_10551530.bat

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Code:

    :files
    C:\Users\XMS\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\_uninst_10551530.lnk
    C:\Users\XMS\AppData\Local\Temp\_uninst_10551530.bat
    C:\Documents and Settings\lon.LON4MSI\Local Settings\Application Data\Shield
    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into notepad, save it as something appropriate and attach it into your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

http://imageshack.us/a/img841/7292/thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

I gave rubn msconfig normal startup and let the reboot process complete.

I reran Hitman and allowed it to register me for 30 days. Latest log
attached should show 7 items removed.

I will rerun Malware bytes but it is likely I sent an older MB log after deleted 22 items. As I said, the .log extention is hard to find and _not_ deposited in a subfolder of Malwarebytes.

It's a tarbay to try and get through

I am tired and frustrated. I have run Malwarebyes so many times I don't know the right log anymore with their cryptic numbering system is impossible. Am I going to check each one by time-- no. Here's what I can find attached.

Malware bytes says everything is ok. trust me. You don't need it because there's nothing in it.

I'll go on to run the Hijack this. If I can sensibly find that.

    I have calmed down.

What seems to be happening here is I go through one program post a log and then there's always some other program called omg.exe that there is still to do.

Also I was mystified by the instructions to go to a "web browsers tab" in
Rogue Killer where I see no such tab. And that program never seems to be updated. Rogue killer shows nothing under any of it's tabs.

At the end of this if I'm supposed to edit the registry or some other feat I won't be able to do it. Again, what has this to with getting rid of Facebook (something I don't use and am offended even seeing) junk in the Firefox browser?

My system works-- it goes 24/7. How many more of these wtf.exe jobs will there be?

.... Appears in the list. I have edited HJT before-- never is there any startup scan lines in it.

Another reason why this all seems misdirected.
Where does HJT install these scan things and then uninstalls them?

None if you continue to be rude. :( All this work that you do not like doing is necessary because you infected yourself somewhow. If all this work, is far too difficult, either reformat the machine and start again, or take it into PCWorld...where you will have to pay for their services unlike mine, so a little patience would be nice, as believe me, I'm just as frustrated as you.

  36. Kestrel13!

Kestrel13! Super Malware Fighter - Major Dilemma Staff Member

You still have work to do (That is IF you continue to want to) Like I said, there's always PCworld or similar. You missed out the OTM step, the JRT step, and the part where I said:

Everyone who comes here has to go thru the same. Unfortunately, when it comes to infected computers, simply waving a magic wand, or pressing simply one button aint gonna cut it.

this is what's available from the MG tools Getlog routine.

The program bat produced the error message which I copied by hand:

However the attached zip is available.

The MGlogs.zip is incomplete. :( Not enough info in there for me.

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.

    • cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
    • nwktst<-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
    • GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
    • ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
    • analyse <-- this attempts to run HijackThis. Be sure to click the Accept button twice in the license agreement popup or it will just sit there and wait.
Now look for the C:\MGlogs.zip file and attach it no matter what happened while doing the above.

In between here I'm doing a full clone backup so as not to lose the time or programs invested. Time for that about 3 hours.

Once these routines are done I'll keep them in my tools folder-- but still won't know much about their effectiveness.

nwktest ran ok and found no errors that I could see before it winked off the DOS box.

Using the run box produced errors. I am simply going

    My Computer > C: > MGtools > program

The other routines still error out. I can't make that other stuff go-- See the previous error message-- it is the same. It looks for a path it can't find OR says something is already running.

I will try to run Hijack this again. That I can do from the desktop or in the MGTools folder. I don't expect to find anything wrong in there.

In sum MGtools issues errors about not enough disk space as before.

    No! Don't need you to.

    Do this! :)

    Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Attach both of these logs into your next reply.
