As a part of a difficulty I had with my computer installing windows xp drivers DavidGP found from my speccy info that I have a dell dimension 1100
EDIT: The driver he sent did in fact work on XP but im not so sure it is what I need here.
but on the dell website it says I have a diffrent dell dimension ("will edit later with the correct number after it is done 'Auto detecting' ")

The main reason for this thread is because my monitor (HP L1906 19" LCD)'s screen resolution wont change from 640x480 to a higher resolution. When on windows XP it's resolution was ok. But when I updated it to windows 7 it lost it's drivers so I'm going to try to recover them using IObit's undelete!!!! I'll post the results after I'm finished.

EDIT: I think I have found the culprit but I don't know how to fix it. The culprit appears to be a problem with the monitor driver, it only supports up to windows vista Ultimate. But as I have stated before I have windows 7.

No where did you discuss this problem until now so we have to start fresh.

Have you tried the Vista driver anyway? You should be able to get, and select that inf for your monitor.

Yes I tried the vista drivers and they seem to dislike windows 7. But as a temp fix I will install vista off of a disk I have onto an extra hard drive. But if you find a way to fix it just post it on the thread.

I hope this isn't bad form, interrupting a thread, but I was wondering how trustworthy this software is. I remember a few years back downloading my video card driver using the MS update feature on my OS, probably XP, and I had to use safe mode and system restore to get my PC back.

Fully agree. Every effort should be made to obtain drivers from your computer manufacturer before resorting third party apps.

Fail. Once your computer is a year old (roughly) the manufacturer does not update anymore meaning their drivers are old. This is bad advice and I can't emphasize that enough.

If you want to come in here and call me out, you had better be right. You're not even close.

Following your advice, he could get drivers as all as 2005. They stopped updating in 2009. He also has an issue using Windows 7 on a Windows XP machine, hence he can search all over or do it with Driver Booster, which will get the latest reference drivers for most of his computer including sound, video and motherboard.

Mr. Pewty used Microsoft Updates, we all know that works poorly so I think your experience here will be totally different.

Iobit Driver Booster works well. How well? I just used it an hour ago.

We should be done here. Original poster, please use the program I suggested and let us know.

Why didn't you just delete my post, or any post that doesn't endorse what you say, as you have done before? Or perhaps it would be better if we just left you to it.

With advice that bad, I can agree with you. Endorsing is a cute word. It's not endorsement, it's giving good advice, which I did, and you did not. Well, assuming you can support using 4-9 year old drivers.

I told you that be for.

I will not use Iobit's Driver Booster or there malware fighter. They are just a resource hog.And they tend to give the wrong info and updates.

I will not even use the Malware removal option in the ASC app.Be cause it does not tell you what it is removing.

Your best bet is too look for the drivers your self.

Look for drivers yourself. Your out of your league here, go find a forum where you two can give your bad advice and no one cares.

Be fore? It's before dummy. There malware fighter? Their. Be cause? Because. You cant even type. Buh bye.
