    WHOA!
the only war that I'm aware of, where our freedom was at stake, was the Revolutionary War. So you fought in that that?

Wow, you are OLLD.. Tell us, how did you live so long? what's your diet like? vegan? paleo? Do you do a lot of HIIT cardio? Or more SS?

and how many people have you killed with your gun?

    Suddenly you are very interesting!

Gun control also worked in Austrailia
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/08/02/did-gun-control-work-in-australia/

Of course it makes sense that it would work.
What's going to work better if you are trying to lose weight? Keeping cakes and cookies in the house OR not having cakes/cookies so easily accessible?
    Americans want a lot,
    guns
    equal pay for unequal work
free healthcare, yet be able to eat anything and never exercise.

I think americans should be able to do whatever they want, as long as it doesnt affect other americans.

    Carrying guns affects us all.

The problem, as stated by Speculant, is if someone tries to take away someones guns, everyone will throw a tantrum. (Just like a baby and the parent takes away the knife/scissors) and then the policiticain, will have committed political suicide and never get office again. This is why a lot of sane/good ideas don't become laws.

Our freedom is not at stake now due to terrorism? Really? As far as freedom goes we also have a Government spying on us in the name of national security so while we are not physically fighting on land, don't think there isn't a fight for our freedom now.

Would you be interested in continuing this conversation with me? We can discuss our constitution OR you could call me old and ask me some personal questions taking jabs at me in which case I will ban you. You're really close now to a permanent ban, so give it a shot.

You can be much more civil here, which is why I usually delete threads about politics and religion.

I also carry a concealed weapon, legally, as does the OP so this thread has wandered off track. Like it or not, we have the right to own guns here and you're more than welcome to debate it but not like this.

    Hint: Walk away.

No it hasn't mate! I live in Australia and I assure you it didn't do anything except strengthen the criminals. The crims and Bikers are just as well armed as ever. So who DID it effect? Like all Bans it just effects the Law-abiding Citizens, of course.rolleyes Once again no clue as to what you're on about. but you've chosen to ignore me, so you won't get educated. I am going to cry a river, now!!...-D

So, what are you carrying MA? Just on a whim, I am going to guess a wheel gun. :cool

Of course, since it is concealed carry, you don' t have to answer.

    I don't mind :)
    I carry a Seecamp 380.
    http://www.seecamp.com/
Hand made, awesome. Shopping small 9's now.
Home is a Sig Saur 40 cal with tactical light and red dot with hollow points.
Love these guns that's why getting a 9 has taken a long time, I like to be sure I like it and am comfortable with it.

When in NY I stick to a Mossberg 20 gauge as NY does not respect my FL permit. I can carry my gun legally all the way to NY (if I avoid Washington) but once I get to NY, it would be illegal so I don't risk it.

Interesting MA. For some reason, saw you as a wheel gun man. :-D

Have you seen the DRT bullets? Friend of mine owns an ammo company, and he carries them in his gun, as does my instructor. Supposed to be the new high tech thingy. I carry them in my M&P, it eats anything, the 1911 I want to shoot a few more mags in to make sure it likes them.

    http://store.drtammo.com/drtterminalshock40sandwfhp180gr-1-1.aspx

That 380 you linked to looks like a great carry gun. I am still kicking myself for selling a Colt 380 Mustang...

Not yet. Seacamp is considered one of the best in the US. It's ammo fussy, however :(

  13. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Ammo fussy, I thought that was spelled 1911? :-D

My friend that has the ammo company only sells JHP, but carries the DRT in his CC gun. Might be something to look into, or not. Reliability trumps technology any day of the week.

Basically the Seacamp likes 3 types of ammo. Anything else risks misfire, etc.

It is. It also is one of the nicest small guns I have shot. Many small guns will hurt when you shoot em, not this one. I am average height, build, here's a phoot in my hand. It's great because it goes on my belt clip or most often right in my pocket. Can;t see it, can grab it easily.

You might appreciate one of the prophet JMB's early designs. This one is a .25 vest gun, from the early 1900's. No real front sight, much like the Colt New Agent guns of today, just a grooved channel. I think a similar design as the Seecamp.

Don't carry this one. But surprisingly accurate head shots at 7 yards are no problem.

Colt is a SA trigger, but same basic stuff.

Still very much a 100% sword person, but that gun is pretty. Simplistic clean lines and surprisingly pleasant to look at.

I'm truly gratified to see a gun thread in a computer forum. Shows that we "geeks" are real people (well, some of us). And unlike most such threads, it has remained surprisingly civil. Much of the discord has come from those who live in other (repressed) countries and who simply cannot comprehend the freedoms we enjoy (or the concomitant responsibilities pertaining thereto).

Being retired military, a former police officer, a competition shooter, and a firm believer in my responsibility to protect myself and my family, I have owned and carried guns for more than 40 years. I just picked up another carry pistol yesterday (that makes four I own). It's a stainless S&W Airweight .38 Special, my first carry revolver. If it's warm enough today, I'm off the the range to wring it out.

Fortunately, I have never had the occasion to need to defend myself. But that could happen today, or tomorrow. And as the saying goes, "When seconds count, the police are just minutes away."

One of these years, I will get myself to a shooting range. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while but every time I try something comes up.

Seeing these threads just makes me want to go even more. Thanks guys :p

    Me too!

I've gone skeet shooting, but that's it. My sister and I wanted to try to go when she lived in Dallas and I visited, but we never got there.

If any of you are in the Monroe LA, Dallas TX, or Houston Tx area and want to shoot, let me know. I am in Louisiana, but got peeps in the other two places that I am sure will let you shoot a gun or two.

Also, if you are interested in shooting, some gun ranges offer an introductory shooting class for little or no money.

I am thinking about one of those for carry in hot weather. I have not shot a Seecamp like MA has, but all the really small autos in a decent caliber have a horrible (to me) trigger. Would most likely prefer a SA/DA revolver trigger over them. .38 spl ain't nothing to sneeze at!

Around here there are only a few shooting ranges in my area and the cheapest is $75 per lesson (lessons are 4 hours I think) which might be a fair price but I don't know. However, it's still out of my price range at the moment.

Well, if you ever come down south, we can get you shooting for a lot less. :-D

Something like this is common where I live. http://www.nssf.org/FirstShots/Seminars/index.cfm

I am going to the Show Me state of MO this spring to try some shotgun skeet shooting. Found another forum with a skeet instructor hosting a weekend shoot. Why not, never been to MO.

My friends parents (who are kind of like my parents) keep trying to get me to go down there with them as they still have family in LA. Maybe one day I'll actually go down there with them and then you can help me with shooting up stuff :-D

As for shooting, the only thing I've ever shot was a bb gun, and that was actually quite fun.

Well, if you ever make it down here, will let you shoot some guns, and I am sure you have shooting shoes somewhere in your closet. :-D

Well that's wrong as the UK Police in part do carry guns, even local forces have armed response teams (not all uniformed police carry guns granted and I wouldn't want them too as it would be a nightmare, don't trust many in charge of cars let alone guns) and SCO19 in London regularly carry guns on UK streets, you will see armed teams in airports and train stations and the street. UK Police carry guns far more than you'd imagine.

Crime would not fall if guns where outlawed, crime would take on a new guise,

Public in UK I will agree do not carry guns as they can in the USA but that does not mean that gun crime is not evident, it is just you don't in the UK get the types of gun crimes as you may in the USA as in neighbours arguing and letting off one.... more its serious gang and criminal crime that uses guns in the UK.

Would I trust the UK public to have the same gun laws as the USA, NO..... and for one reason we would not be responsible enough.

Shooting range? Nah. Look for the guys in blaze orange. They'll probably know of a gun club you can go to. Much better to shoot on an outside range than indoors anyway. Better for your hearing, better lighting.

  31. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

I go to the indoor range at a time when I am almost always the only one there. Got a nice outdoor range at a friend's house as well. Need more ammo. :-D

Actually, open top shoes are not encouraged. Think about hot brass landing on your feet... I had on a T-Shirt on once, and got some hot brass down the shirt. Left a burn mark.

To my credit, I finished my other 2 shots of the drill before doing the hot brass dance. And I can't dance well in good circumstances. :-D

Pair of boots or tennis shoes would be better shooting shoes.
