    >> One of my friends just posted this on facebook and I have to ask.. what is 4K TV? dyamond <<

4K resolution is a "generic term" for display devices or content which have horizontal resolution on the order of 4,000 pixels

I certainly wouldn't buy it, of course - WAY out of my price range lol. However, I certainly got quite a kick out of the hilarious very first review listed about that Samsung 3D Smart LED TV.

    Good Luck! - COMP

    It certainly is pretty.

"You can talk to your TV in more natural ways such as asking, "What action movies are on", or you can perform all the basic commands such as "record", "last channel" and "turn on". You can also use hand gestures to browse the new intuitive Smart Hub, a central, easy-to-navigate hub of all your favorite content. You can even use gestures to use apps, play games and more."

'more natural ways'?? The only talking my tv gets is when my husband is cursing at it when he's watching football.LOL

About the hand gestures and voice commands, though. ~ Used it before on P.C's and whilst the novelty and "Wow" factor may be considerable, one soon realizes that it is a lot easier to just pick up a remote control and twiddle your thumb to instantly get what you want, as opposed to waving arms around and giving 'Harry Potterish' magic words and gestures. LOL
It's like the P.C. mouse has not essentially changed much in thirty years or more, because it's pretty hard to beat 0.3 mm mouse sensitivity and fingertip buttons for control.
Not a very constructive criticism, maybe, but soo true, as with a lot of high-tech gimmickry.

I've seen the picture on a 4K TV with 4K content on display at Fry's. Even displayed on a brightly lit main aisle (as opposed to the dimly lit TV department), the picture is stunning.

This being said, 4K will not really take off for at least a few years due to two issues:

First (and obviously), price. My guess is 4K pricing will drop dramatically over the next few years (just like the current 1080p sets that are selling for as little as 30% of what they were just a few years ago).

The second is the bandwidth required to deliver 4K content compared to current HDTV. Cable companies like Comcast are already at or near their TV channel bandwidth capacity in most markets. If services like Netflix and Hulu offered 4K content, it's likely people would easily max out their monthly GB allotment if they watched 4K often.

    Good one Laura!

$40K for a TV... Let's just say my dog Maxwell is not trained that well. :-D Don't think I could get $40 for him. But he is fun.

Cue old cranky man's voice: I don't want to have to talk to my TV!

I didn't read your second link Dyamond:-o I automatically stop reading after a question is posted and try to answer it.

If you've just spent 30-40K on a TV I guess Amazon let you have a little fun in the review.

EDIT Wait a minute? Can anyone write a review on Amazon Prime? Even if you haven't bought it? Seems counter productive.

Yes, stupid, isn't it? So on the emotional brands like Apple, etc, you have people going on and just giving bad/good reviews that don't even purchase it there. I have no idea why a retailer would do that.

It's called a "hook". Retailer rationale these days is that any publicity is good publicity, as long as they can herd the marks into the stores or onto the websites.

Same kind of thing: we've got a local store that invariably posts the cheapest gasoline around just so he can get the customers into the building. He even has roaming scouts to report any competition's price changes. Of course, once inside the trinkets/t-shirts/bling/ice cream for the kids are all exorbitantly priced - but who cares? No mother/father is going to resist keeping the youngins quiet by not buying them something, usually - and that's what the guy is counting on.

Ah, capitalism. You gotta love it. :confused

Dy, we bought a 55" Samsung last Christmas - it's plenty big for us.

Whenever I'm out and people comment on whatever kids/nices/nephews/grandkids I'm with, by saying:

    "s/he's so cute!"
    "wow, s/he can really eat!"

    I always say

    "s/he's your for $12.....cash"

It always gets laughs.....sadly, no takers

Own 2, yes 2, 55" 3D LED Samsung's. One the optical cable door broke so can;t hook up optical sound. Other the Smart apps started working. Did everything to fix it. My new TV is LG. No more Samsung even if it was $300.

You must have gotten some lemons, or we got the rare one - never a problem with ours, and the kids have put it through the wringer.

Haha - just weird that both LG and Samsung are S. Korean. In fact their respective entries at Wikipedia both start exactly alike:

Indeed and good post as no content is currently mainstream recorded at 4K resolution on in the main its like upscaled 1080p.

Will be great once its mainstream but by then we will have a newer resolution as tech moves at a vast pace, problem is in the backend and producers as in TV and Movies, they are not keeping pace with the front end, In the main its a cost issue as new cameras to record in resolutions at this level are very expensive.
