I saw the end of this clip on a TV show called FutureScape,
but thought it was mostly tongue in cheek.

Guess we'll have "No Fly Zones" for kites.

The so-called "reality" of this concept; as well as the possibility of its coming to furition, sounds like a preposterous and ridiculous idea to me.

However it was also a great publicity stunt in that it was a terrific "no-cost" way to get their company's name on just about every headline in the Internet universe.

I can just imagine people ordering parcels, then stealing the Drone, LoL!LOL Either that. or just kicking the crap our of it, or something. An evil person could even place a firecracker, (or worse!) on the Drone and watch the fun as it gets blown to Kingdom come. Only thing is, you'd need to throw a blanket over your newly hunted Drone to stop it taking off again! Ha, ha!roflmao

 

If this service actually got off the ground (pun intended), I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the local 9-1-1 emergency dispatch center when the wave of UFO calls starts flooding in. :-D

 

9-1-1 calls yes.
UFO related? No.
Complaints of people trying to shoot the darned thing out of the sky is more likely.

 

Being that I was just told by USPS the package I ordered to be shipped Priority Mail 2-Day that was scheduled for arrival on Monday may or may not arrive on Friday (it's still listed as being in Oregon, where it was last scanned on Saturday...they have no further information at this time), I would actually kind of welcome this whole drone thing.

Sure, there are larger implications for a lot of things, but I bet a drone would've gotten the %#$@& thing to my house by now.

I've always wanted a drone:-D

Problems-

The drone being stolen, the drone being shot down, the drone failing and dropping on someone's head, or house, or car,the lawsuit, the package weight- the video delivers an empty plastic box that drone can't lift anything over a few grams a couple of hundred feet, the noise- drones are really noisy there's no way around it, the more package weight the more size and noise.

Not gonna happen, unless in small remote area's that have no choice and they will be huge at least 6-8 feet across.

Amazon have already done away with taxes though so why not workers?:-D

 

Someone has to charge the drones... And not to get too HBT, but how has Amazon done away with taxes vs Newegg?

I just ordered something via Amazon and it included tax.

 

Corporation tax.

I don't want a discussion of the morality of aggressive tax evasion, if it's happening at all or who the biggest culprits are, it was just a joke.

The tax laws are kinda weird regarding this.


If you live in the same state as a warehouse from which you order, you are charged tax. Some states require tax no matter what.

If an Internet retailer has a warehouse that is outside of the state in which it operates, and you preside, then no taxes are required.

That said, Amazon has always charged me taxes, and so has NewEgg.

 

Kansas here, i get no tax on newegg, and tax on amazon, i know we have a amazon facility in ks somewhere though.
