I have added a new 4TB HDD, but only 2TB is online is disk management, how do in un-split (or un-partition), so that I can get it all online as one?
See attached screenshot of disk management.

Are you running a 32-bit version of Windows? It caps disk access at 2048GB or 2TB. There is a utiliity I've recommended to at least one other poster called ASR3TB+ Unlocker which removes that restriction. I've run it on my Dell 32-bit computer and the other one I recommended it to is, apparently, running it on an Acer computer. Because Windows reserves disk space for itself, you may only get around 3.5TB of useable space.

It doesnt look like you are running 32 bit because you have that other disk which is 3TB. So

You should right click on the 2TB partition and try to extend the volume to the unallocated space.

If that doesnt work, then you should right click on the 2TB partition and delete it, and then shrink the unallocated space, and then extend the volume to the whole 4TB.

    Hope this works!

    Extend option not available.
I deleted it and can create a "new simple volume", as what i did previously!
I am unable to do this at all on the smaller portion, as option is greyed out.
    So still stuck....

Your motherboard must use UEFI and the OS must support GUID partitioning.

If they do (Vista and up re: OS), then you should be able to format one big partition.

If not...you must use a third party partition manager to do it.

See here for some more granular details:

Get one of the partitioning apps like AOMEI Partition Assistant or MiniTool Partition Wizard.

After launching the program, select the partition you want to increase the size of and select the resize option or drag the right edge of the partition out to the size you want. Then make sure you click apply in the upper bar.

Thanks, am a bit out of my depth, I wouldn't have bought this if I had known it would be so much hassle!
No idea re UEFI and GUID partitioning.
So I need to buy software....surely this should come with and be sorted by HDD manufacturer for purchasers?

Its a slave drive, does that change any of the comments?
I would just use the two partitions, but cant get one off Unallocated!?

    What brand is the drive?

SORTED, Seagate brand, used their Disk Wizard, and played with Extender Capacity Manager, and somehow the wizard reappeared to select NTFS / GPT, did the latter this time, and gave me the option to extend in Disk Management, now seen in win explorer as 3.63TB.

Both AOMEI and MiniTool are freeware and downloadable from Major Geeks. In my previous post, I provided links to the download pages for both.

mdonah - i did see you post, but didn't need to use your suggested freeware, and I don't think I need to (do I?), thanks for your input.
