    Hello
Windows has a 200+ MB update for NVIDEA but when I clicked on the driver it is the latest. I have hidden the update.
Would you recommend this optional update or keep it hidden?
    Thanks
    Peter

Hi peterr, there have been quite a few threads lately about drivers, and the one thing everyone seems to agree on is not to accept them when offered in Windows Update. It is however a useful indicator that updates are available.

Either go to your computer manufacturer's website to get them or, as MA advocates, run Driver Booster, I would never previously have run any automatic driver updater but as MA has put his reputation on the line with this one I figured it must be OK, and so far it has been.

    Hi B
    Thanks for replying.
    I hid the Windows update.
I tested the "update driver" in the device manager which said I have the latest driver.
I then went to NVIDEA and did both a search and used the auto finder. The download it gave me was rejected by my pc. I think my CPU is not be compatible as there is a CPU tester under the search may I tried to use it and it called for java to be installed. Then pornography appeared when I tested the CPU so I immediately stopped.
I know you are thinking I had the wrong site but I didn't.
I uninstalled and tried to install the download NVIDIA gave with auto search and my pc said it could not be installed.
I did a system restore and all seems ok but the update, being optional, is still hidden.
I will give your referral a try and thanks again.
    Peter

    Hi B.
It worked well; there wee 3 outdated ones and one was serious. Be sure to set a restore point as it does not do it automatically.
    Thank you for the referral.

It does create restore points automatically for me, and just as well, as it installed a new HD Audio driver today in Win 7 and I got an error message on next boot about incompatibility. Had to use system restore to get out of it. Any more incidents like that and it will be uninstalled.

    Hi B
I am sorry it did not work for you.
Drivers are tricky as you know. I held my breath when I did Drive Booster but the results were astonishing. My pc looks so crystal clear and vivid. It has never work better.
One of the issues it corrected was "engine" but I don't know what it is.
I will not be using it unless necessary but I am both happy it worked for me and sorry it did not work for you.
Thank goodness for system restore and imaging.

Where did you find the restore point it created, in the program or in your own system restore? I had neither but labeled my own restore point before using it just in case. It is still labeled in case I have to go back. So far so good.

    Thank you for the referral.

I did see 'Creating system restore point' flash up briefly before it started installing new drivers and sure enough it was there when I needed to go back.

    >>I went to restore and mine was empty so I would think it is a good idea to create your own just in case.
