Getting into safe mode

Look I know this is a stupid question, but just how do you get into safe mode on a win 7 system, I thought it was F8 but that doesn't work.

It is F8 but you've got to repeatedly tap F8 as soon as the POST screen comes up when you boot your computer.

 

If your box won't boot to safe mode with F8 in Win 7 there is another way. Type msconfig into the Start > Search box and select the Boot tab. Click Safe Boot and Minimal. Remember to reverse this when you are done.

Hey, thanks Earthling. That's a great tip. My PC flashes the requisite access screen for just a fraction of a second. So in order to get into Safe Mode I have always had to punish my F8 key for 15 - 20 seconds, and even then it sometimes didn't work. Using MSConfig is a much better option. I thank you, my tired index finger thanks you, and I believe my keyboard thanks you (or at least the F8 key in any case).

 

Yes it's useful up to a point, but F8 has many more options than just safe mode, especially last known good config.
