I really wanted a Colt Commander 1911 for Christmas, but that deal fell through. :cry:cry

So, found a good deal on a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. Got it home today, even after taxes, shipping, and FFL transfer fees, it cost me about $20 less than buying one at Academy Sports. I bought it from a new mom and pop gunstore in south Louisiana. Hopefully the range will be open Tuesday so I can try it out. Liking this little gun so far.

I wish Smith had put the same type trigger in the M&P 9c I have... Anyway, got it cleaned up and ready for some shooting. Painted the rear sight dots black, so I only have to look for one dot. Contemplating removing the external safety.

In the picture, the magazine above the gun is a full sized 1911 magazine, about 5.5" long for a size reference.

    Merry Christmas to me? :-D

    Yay...new toy for Fred!:-D

    Congrats.

I really want to go shooting with you. I think if everyone on MG were honest, they would want to as well. LOL

How many guns do you have now? Inquiring minds want to know.

4 or 5. Had that really bad canoe accident...:-D But, I feel safer, since all the guns are at the bottom of the river. :-D

Gotta finish beating back the Commies in NY before I go shooting again.

Good luck! I would move to another state, NY and CA are pretty much an uphill battle.

Is that a laser sight pointer I see Fred?

Nope. No lasers for me. They are cool and fun, but, in my opinion, dangerous on a handgun. Many are activated by the middle finger of the firing hand. Often, when one finger on one hand does something, the others like to join in. Bad stuff if one finger is on the trigger. My 1911 has a 3# trigger, don't take much twitch for it to fire.

Some folks love lasers. I keep my eye on the front sight. I can't talk on a cell phone and drive. Know your limitations. :cool

Would not mind having a .22 plinker with a laser sight, just for giggles.

If you're going to get a laser for that, chat with the local gun smith, I know I've seen guns with grip mounted laser switches. That way simply squeezing the gun for an accurate shot turns on the laser.

No lasers for my carry guns.

    I Googled this:
    Don't know about that sight.

Perhaps a younger person than I can be confident in using one finger to trigger a light or laser while the index finger is on the trigger, my dexterity is not up to that.

I am not telling anyone not to get a laser or light. Just saying why I don't use one. My limitations.

Little gun has quite the fireball out of the barrel when you shoot it. :-D

Have begun some mods on it.

You and me both, brother. Nice Smith though . . . good CC weapon.

    Amen to that.

I didn't mean for the carry gun. I meant for the plinker, so you're not using the same motion for turning on the laser as pulling a trigger.

Lasers are just not for me. Fun though. :-D When I said I would like one, I meant it is something I would consider if I had a lot more things knocked off my list of wants/needs list. I am actually planning on getting a M&P .22 pistol, so I can use it for training for less ammo cost. I am a big fan of the M&P line, and like the similar methods of operation. My exception is the 1911, but at least the grip angle is the same. Very easy for me to switch from my M&P 9c to the Shield.

When shooting the little Shield, I noticed it has a very nice fireball. And recoil is surprisingly light.

Really liking the gun. Got a Talon grip ordered for it, and my new holster should be here in a week or so. :cool

The gun is a little hard to grip. Was going to stipple it, but saw this: http://talongungrips.com/grips/smith-and-wesson/shield.html
