    Hello,

First off thanks for running this forum, the help you provide is much appreciated.
I've noticed some strange behaviour with both Firefox (my main browser) and IE over the past 1-2 weeks. When I start my PC and launch either of these they both crash. I usually have time to type the first 3 letter of my search before they lock up. If I kill them using the process list and restart them the same thing will occur. The only way I've found around this is to stop my Antivirus - Webroot secureanywhere (this also blocks me from typing when I first launch the 'Shut down protection' dialog. I have to wait a few minutes until I'm able to type in the code to shut it down. Once Webroot is disabled I can use the browsers no problem. This leads me to believe either webroot is playing up of there is some kind of malware on my system that is active when my browsers are open that webroot is blocking. I've noticed on another piece of company software that also requires a connection out to a server when run that the same problem occurs.

I've run all the initial checks requested on this forum and found nothing. Please see attached files for analysis. Thanks for any help and please let me know if you need more information?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You do have a little junkware to cleanup but your browser problems are not due to this. Especially since they work when Webroot is disabled. One major issue that I see is that you are almost out of free diskspace on drive C where Windows is located. Your logs show
    Code:
    Size 111.21 GB (119,408,685,056 bytes)
Free Space 1.89 GB (2,025,287,680 bytes)
This is too little free space for Windows to run efficiently. I cannot guarantee this is the reason for the browser crashes but there is a chance.

Also note that your logs were from safe boot mode and we really need them from normal boot mode ( at least the MBAM and MGtools logs ) to have better insight into what is going on.

Thanks for the quick response. I've done a fair bit of HD clean up, so far things seem the same. I'm running a defrag and using defraggler to get the HD in the best shape possible having freed up half the disk space.
I've attached the 2 logs you've asked for run in normal mode.

    Thanks again

You're welcome. Your logs are basically clean other than a few junkware items which we will fix below. I suggest that you remove Webroot and use something else. Seems like you are having conflict with it and some other software that you are running.

Uninstall the below old java versions. They are security risks and you have the new version installed already.
Java SE Development Kit 7 Update 5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 33
    Java(TM) SE Development Kit 6 Update 25
    Java(TM) SE Development Kit 6 Update 33

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Conduit
    C:\Users\chris\AppData\LocalLow\Conduit
    C:\Users\chris\AppData\Local\Temp\*.*

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Conduit]
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1800446529-1516693612-1845744055-1000\Software\AppDataLow\Software\Smartbar]
    [-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1800446529-1516693612-1845744055-1000\Software\Conduit]
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

    Hi

    Thanks again,
I've done all the process listed in your last post and things seem much better. I have had a good look through the log files I've uploaded and realised there are some things in there I don't want on a public forum. Is it possible for you to either delete the thread for me or all the attachments please? I know I should have spotted these before uploading the attachments but I missed them.

    Thanks for all your help

You did not attach the follow up logs requested.

Not sure what info you are worrying about? If we delete the logs or thread, there will be no history of what was done here should there ever be a need to check in the future. There are hundreds of threads each week and we don't typically have anyone worrying about data in the logs other than when someone has used there real full first and last names for a user account but this is really more of a problem with what the end user should be changing on their PC. The other case is where we had users logs showing tons of porn downloads, but still that does not tell anyone who and where the user is.

    Hi,

I appreciate the point of leaving the thread active. I haven't posted anymore logs because I realised there was an entry in there that I didn't want public domain same as the original logs I posted. I just really appreciate it if you could at least remove the upload files if not the whole thread?

Thanks very much for all your help

    Okay they were deleted.

Just remember that if you return with a problem related to your logs, we now have no history.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
