XP SP3 fresh installation - are all updates available?

Before XP support stops I would like to make a completely fresh installation of XP Pro SP3, download updates, make a back-up of the basic installation and then further back-ups of the system after various applications have also been installed.

However, I have been told that this will not be entirely successful as "all the updates are no longer available".

Is that true?

 

I believe all useful updates are still available. There are ongoing efforts to create 'sets' of updates just like Win98se and W2000 sets exist.

I am also paying attention to other XP-era Microsoft products, like OfficeXP and 2003.

I'll wait a while to see if anyone shoots down my idea before I go ahead.

 

All of the updates will be available at least through March. I use wsus offline update initially when I re-install XP Pro. Then I go to Microsoft Update in IE 8 to get the remainder.

As was mentioned in another post and a news article on MG's, definition updates for MSE will still be available after 4/8/14 for about another year. Third party companies are also extending support for XP.
