I've never been to a masseuse for a proffesional massage but it's been on my to-do list for ages, well why not?

I've found a place near me that has qualified masseuse's does hot stones, towel wraps, massage, sauna and isn't a sleazy brothel type place or prohibitively expensive so in a few weeks hopefully I will be incredibly relaxed:cool

Anyone else go for regular massages or not mind talking about their experiences? Does it help with tension and stress even days after?

Those are some serious looks she's giving the camera there. LOL I have to say, I didn't watch very long.

I get regular massages after I had back issues to the point where I thought I'd need surgery. I can say unequivocally that it helps.I will also say, though, that your typical spa massage feels good, but if you have ongoing issues, it's not going to do anything for you long term. The woman I go to was a physical therapist and now does massage therapy. She does deep tissue and it's not the go to sleep because you are so relaxed type massage.

I would highly recommend it. I would say though that I wouldn't recommend a day spa if you are looking to help with muscle issues. If you want to relax, sure. You're also better off price wise going to an independent person.

Rikky, you need to go see a chiro and get a good deep tissue workout. :-D

They tortured me Tuesday. I have light bruising on my back and under my arm. I rate the pain up there with a broken bone during the 'treatment'.

But, I feel much better now. They told me straight up, this is going to hurt, and most likely cause bruising.... :cry

Now, a really relaxing massage, that is on my list also. A lady where I get my haircut does that, plus the tanning place a couple of blocks down the road. Been tempted, let me know if you try it.

I watched it to the end. Taking 15 minutes just to do the neck?

Many years ago ago I had terrible back pain. Went to an excellent massage therapist and after some sessions the pain was gone. She recommended that I would go to see her on a maintenance basis but I could not afford that. So after a long while when I went back she wasn't there anymore due to injuries and the *new* therapist was not as good so I never did go back.

It all depends on what you are looking for so telling him/her what the problem is would be necessary.

I don't go very often because I can't really afford it, but I try to go a couple of times a year as a treat, usually when I'm on vacation. It doesn't help with the major knots (Laura is absolutely right, you need a real massage therapist and regular visits for that), but it certainly helps with general relaxing and the effect lasts usually a week or two depending on what my life is like. I've never done anything with the stones, or the sugar rubs, or anything other than just a deep tissue massage, but I love them.

I've never had a massage and couldn't see myself ever getting one. Here's why..

I have pretty long hair and a lot of people (both people I know and don't know) just HAVE to touch my hair, play with it, etc and it really makes my skin crawl. It seriously takes all my self control just to not to punch them in the face to make them stop. With that in mind, I don't know well I'd fare with a massage. I might end up in jail for assault or something. :-D

I have the same problem...waist-length, very curly hair. When I go for a massage, I usually braid it and pin it on top of my head so it stays out of the way and doesn't provide them temptation.

One night at the bar I actually did elbow a woman in the face. She was very short so her face was right at elbow height as I sat on my bar stool when she walked up and started petting my hair. I couldn't have stopped it if I'd tried. Not that I tried very hard. ;)

Good safety tip: Never touch Dyamond's or Sgt Tibb's hair . . . :boxing

I've had massage therapy before for a back problem . . . did it for a week. Therapist was a real cutie so I didn't mine her pawing me, but it didn't help my back pain. Her name was Stephanie and we bonded :p . . . but I finally went to a chiropractor and in one session the issue was better. Had instant improvement in mobility. Pain was still there, but over a few days it diminished and finally went away.

I think the Doc that suggested the therapy for me just didn't like chiropractors or something. There was a downside; the chiropractor was a grumpy old guy :-D

    Thanks for all the responses.:)

I'm wound up pretty tight, especially around my head and neck. I'v just started back at the gym after feeling fat because of the Christmas pig out and the muscles in my shoulders and neck could really use a good workin over.

I've had lots of massages before and they're always nice and relaxing but never as good as the reports I've heard from other people e.g "The masseuse has magic hands." so I'm interested, how good can a massage be? If a masseuse has years of experience and training and more importantly is certified.

I'll update if I do go.

I'm not an evil guy though, probably time for a back wax firstroflmao

I've been to a relaxing massage a number of times and it does relax you, not just the muscles, your mindset as well. I've been to the Aqua Sana at Centre Parcs on a family holidays a number of times and ended up smelling like a pine cone afterwards! However, there are relaxing music and quiet rooms that you can chill out in and look at the scenery. Takes about an hour for a full body Swedish massage (including head massage as well!) and half-an-hour for upper body.

The only drawback is afterwards when they recommend some bathroom products or shower gel, which are at exorbitant price enough to put more stress back on you.

In the end, though, you do feel relaxed both physically and mentally...

There's a fine line between giving someone a massage and sexual assault:-D

For "Back, Neck and Shoulder Stress Release Massage" it is £44 for 25 minutes.

For a body type massage it is £68 for 55 minutes.

If you want warm stones with a massage it is £76 for 55 minutes.

Etc., these are Centre Parc prices as of now, take a glance at their website.

I've also used Champneys, their prices are cheaper but the surroundings don't come with an inclusive family holiday. For example,

For "Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage" it is £38 for 25 minutes at a day spa...

Cheers Maxwell.:cool Slightly more expensive than the one I went for.

I finally went for a massage. As I was jogging through the village I live in a new beauty place had opened up so covered in cross country mud and stinking of sweat I decided to enter. I was the only guy in there:-D Apart from the good looking rugby player model guy on the desk to remind all the middle aged women that they are worth it.

Went for a standard 30minute back, neck a shoulder massage for £28 but I wanted it for 45mins. Something got lost in translation though because halfway through she turned on this cauldron and started basting my back with wax:confused I though WTF? This went from good and relaxing to a Madonna video pretty quick:-D

She then wrapped me in hot towels or something, I'm not sure I was so hot I started to drift off into dream world, also known as passing out.:-D

After that she flipped me over onto my back and finished me off:-D Finished my head and neck massage that is, I was very chillaxed, or chillwaxed.

Total cost was £38. Was it worth it? Hmmm No. Was nice having gorgeous girl paying so much attention to me but I was in the wrong frame of mind, I still had U2 going through my head from running so I didn't relax properly, I also had to run a mile home, have a shower, then walk a mile back to beauty place in an hour to make the appointment 'in the rain' I won't make that mistake again. Only had 4 hours sleep the night before.

It pissed me off also that after the massage, and after handing over nearly £40 or $60 for 45 mins just a few minutes ago they started trying to convince me to sign up for a monthly session, I nearly told them to F-off and let me relax a bit.

I've got some info from my doctors about massage students who work for cheap at the local college so I'm gonna look into that also.

The reason I wanted the massage was for migraine headache, I've had headaches every day since being a tween and sensitivity to light. There's no cure you just have to treat each day as it comes and try not to take too many pain meds. If anyone ever wondered what I meant when I mentioned had bad health.

I don't like talking about this crap.

My body is perfectly healthy, since I started running again in the new year carrying a 22lb weight and joined a gym again I feel a lot better, the pain is easier to control and first time I've seen my abs for 10 years after losing about 14lb.

Gonna go for more holistic approach to pain and relaxation this year instead of drugs see how we go

EDIT to all you perverted guys out there, at the end of the massage they give you a questionnaire to fill in rating each question 0-10. In the appearance of the masseuse I gave her a number rating of HOT. I hope they found it funny:-D
