How many 10 year old girls say such things...about swords?

She has a tournament next week. This time, she will be actually sparring. I am excited!

 

Very nice, man! My 11 year old is going for her yellow belt this month in Taekwondo. I think she has a good shot at it.

To be honest, I think girls do better than boys. Boys are too busy being immature at this age.

 

I agree. She does have her head on straight. Thanks for the offer! As a young man I attained the rank of shodan in Karate (I can give her some insights with training, conditioning). I find Taekwondo to be superior to Karate with regard to kicking techniques. I am very thankful that my daughter has an exceptional instructor. Her instructor has practiced Taekwondo for 31 years. I like him a lot. I am in awe of him when he teaches young children; the perfect balance of patience, and a real sense of fun.

Has she started sparring yet? I have been coaching my daughter, and I show her how to exploit the weaknesses of the style :-D

For instance, with it being a heavy kicking style, I get her to shuffle her feet to make them wonder which leg she will kick with, and then she strikes several times with her fists. So far it has had 100% success, even against black belts

I believe in heavy positive reinforcement. I spent my entire childhood being told how worthless I was and I vowed to never let her feel that way.

 

Heh-heh, that's awesome! Yes. She has started to fight a bit and seems to like it a lot. They used the body armour on Friday. Agreed. Taekwondo has weak punching techniques.

 

Adrynalyne, as I've told you before she's just gorgeous. Star is peeking over my shoulder and said how could someone so cute look like she means total business. :-D

 

Virtual 'ditto' here. Earned my Shodan Black Belt in SE Asia and my youngest daughter joined and stuck with Tae Kwan Do for 5 years, earning her Black Belt, as well. Tae Kwan Do is great for sparring and some self defense, but it's no match for Kyokushin Karate in a street fight at close quarters.
