no, "stir the pot" isnt the same thing as tossing out facts to see why people are being so emotional about this topic.

Many seem to be saying you can't train people, only animals. Then in the same breath saying you get others to treat you by how you treat them, which is TRAINING people.
I give good example showing people being trained, I state facts, I have a older brother is regarded in my family as the "pot stirer" he says things JUST to get a rise out of people. That is not what I'm doing.

but I am pretty satisfied that I've done all I can, so I'm going to go ahead and pass the kids and let the next grade deal with them:-D

About that. Translations do not use exact words all of the time. It is likely that the hebrew word for teach would be a closer match and/or is the same word as train. That said, they are different words in the English language, for use in different circumstances. When it comes to social interactions, training someone to be a certain way is insulting, no matter how you put it. They may be synonyms, but you use them in different situations.

Use the word teach and move on. Otherwise, you are doing it on purpose with the intent of upsetting others. I could understand if English is not a strong language for you, but I don't get that impression here.

I understand why you and some others feel the word "train" refers to animals. I don't understand why it can't also apply to humans and why I am getting such emotionally outcry from people over saying humans can be trained and are constantly being trained. What does it mean to for a human to be trained? When a human learns a certain action leads to a certain reaction. I don't know a better word for it other than training.
I've asked for other words, I've used examples where other words(grooming) fit, I've even given examples where training is used. So, Im not doing anything wrong by saying humans can be trained.


Humans are also constantly profiling others, something that people seem to think is "morally wrong", but I digress.

at any rate; I'm am agnostic, so I just laugh about religion.

I do my best to treat others with what knowledge I have(since I'm here to gain free knowledge, I readily share what I know.) I dont try to be a jerk, I dont call people names or use "HA HA" unless they treat me that way first. I try to be decent to folks as I'd like them to be toward me.(which means just sticking to facts, not emotion)

My comment about "not being someone who fits in" was toward how I am in the real world.
I don't ever wear pants, rarely shave, etc,, I don't try to fit in, mostly cause I have no where to fit in with due to being in a coma and depressed. But that's how my life is right now. The comment was not about how I post on this board.

I think the word you are looking for is teach. We teach our children how to act. We don't train or groom them, they are not show ponies.

I'm also pretty entertained when people who don't believe in the bible quote it to try and prove their point. Aren't you discrediting yourself by quoting something you don't even believe?

Anyway, I find it really hard to believe that you talk this way to people IRL. If you do, you must be a lonely man. Although, I haven't written off the fact that you could, indeed, be a troll looking for a fight where you can get one. Either way, it's a sad existence.

again, since Ive said this in this thread already, which means you are just trying to stir the pot or you didnt read the post I mentioned this. I am not trying to change people, people can act like whatever they want.

 

sheesh I am in agreement Teach is the best word. I laugh about how such an obvious answer didnt come up till now. Even with my examples of how we teach kids to be, no one thought of that word till nw.

Go back in this thread and wherever the word "train/groom/manipulate" is used replace with "teach" and then this thread is very boring. Its taken this long to come up with an appropriate word, but trying to blame me for how long its taken? well, thats just funny.
