I have a link to MS Office 2010 Home and Student. I have the key also.
It is.exe but it is black.
When I paste it in the address bar at top it gives me a choice to save, or run. When I click save it says save as, run or save as and run.
I am making a dvd from it so what should I do?
I also have a burner I could import it to but still don't know which to select so when it is time to install it will do so from the disc.
    Thank you

From this description, I THINK you want "SAVE AS" so you can save the files to your hard-drive, and then later burn them onto a CD-DVD. I usually burn these items onto two different brand of disk-blanks and, if possible, use different burners, too. Plus a USB stick, AND I keep this downloaded file on some server, too. Losing this file can be costly. Making a few 20-cent DVD backups is a very VERY cheap alternative.

It begins in http and ends in .exe.
I used to just double click it until it said run and then it installed but as I said I want to burn it to disc. So, I will save it to desktop then use my burner to burn it. I have attached a pik of the choices if you could help choose the right one.
    Thank you

You want to make the Top Choice in the left-most menu - BURN FILES OR FOLDERS. That's creating a "data disk" in other words. A plain, ordinary back-up of files.

Is this PC networked to another computer? (That's how I 'copy' this file around and use a 'different burner' to make alternative CD-DVD backups. And which disk blank to use? "It depends on the file size. If the file is UNDER 700Mb, then I can use CD blanks. If it's over 700, I use DVD blanks."

Even if the file is "701Mb", I'd still use DVD blanks, even though most CDs have a 740Mb limit.

This is too important of file for you to scrimp on pennies for a disk-blank.

At the same time, some researchers claim "CD Blanks have a longer lifespan than DVDs because the Reading Lasers are a larger bandwidth, not so finicky or precise."

But that's a whole other issue-!

I will use a dvd as it is 105 GB.
My wife's laptop is on the same network in the house.

I don't mean to 2nd guess but I think I have used another choice in the past.
Please see the 2nd one up and on its right it says burn a cd/dvd/ blue ray disc from a disc image and under it says iso which I think this is.

If this is wrong I will go with yours.

    1.05 GB not 105.

Any ideas further about the Ashampoo selection?

If the file you received has an .ISO extension, then that's a DVD image file you can use to burn "as an image".

If it's an .EXE file, then it's considered a 'data file' and you'll want to make backups with the top FILE OR FOLDERS backup choice.

Now, if I double-click on the .EXE file and it 'unzips itself' into an ISO file, well, then you've got BOTH!

(And capacity, yes, you'll be using DVD blanks.)

It did begin with HTTP and ended with .exe.
After downloading to desktop it is blue and has these numbers under it.

I have tried prntscrn , pasting all to no avail.

I'm not an expert on this forum's method of handling file-imports, but Print-Screen isn't a File Creating Activity. It merely copies the screen's image into Memory. To create a file from that, I'd need to open PAINT or some graphics program, then do a CTRL V (paste) and THEN I'd see my screen. I'd save that as a file.

NOW I'd have an actual file, not some Memory Cache.

Nevertheless, you could have merely typed the file name above. The HTTP beginning is the URL source of the file but only the file-name is useful. Save it to a folder where you can find it again on any BROWSE function, then try your ASHAMPOO burner. Try FILES AND FOLDER, and if that doesn't work, try your other choice.

peterr - Win 8 (and 7) have something called Snipping Tool for grabbing screenshots - no need to use PrtScrn these days. In 8 just type snip on the Start screen.

    Christine
I have a snip to show you.
I did as you said for the Office file as it is fine.
It got me thinking. A while ago, I used the snip you see to create the dvd for the Win 8.1 file.
Will it work or do I have to burn it again using the same files /folders I did for Office?
Please take a close look at the snip which is part of Ashampoo as it reads as though it would work but I am not sure.
Please refer to the previous post with a picture of the entire Ashampoo so you can make a comparative judgment. Although I hope the current one suffices,
if I need a new burn could you please refer me to the Win 8.1 file to download?
    Thank you
    Peter

PeterR, the Ashampoo Menu Option isn't the important issue.

What's important is the FILE NAME you're trying to burn. Does it end in .EXE or does it end in .ISO?

That's the reason you'll choose one Ashampoo Menu Option or the other.

    Hi Christine
I don't have the Win8.1 link so I cannot say. I guess what you are saying is if it ends in .exe I should use files and folders at top and if it ends in iso it should be the one I pointed out -is that right?

I burned the first one as .iso I think so I need the file again so I can burn it as .exe.
Do you have the Win 8.1 pro file and is it exe or. Iso?
    Thank you
    Peter

PeterR, I don't have this file. YOU DO. I think. I guess. Possibly. Maybe.

    I can't tell!

You've never told us the NAME OF THE FILE despite requests for it - "you could just TYPE it" for example!

Tell me the NAME of the file you downloaded from the link (and the link is NOT important) - just the Name of the File.

When you burn whatever-you-burn, you MUST be selecting SOME file with SOME name. Yes? That's what we want to know!

    >>Hi again Christine -I think there are 2 issues; 1- the Office file was .exe and I used the files/folder as you said -done.
2-The Win 8.1 Pro x 64 file as far as I can tell is an .iso file and that is how I burned it with Ashampoo; as the choice says ,"Burns .iso."
Although I have no key, if I was doing a refresh for example, it would ask for media for missing files and this disc would provide that.
I hope I was lucky when used the .iso choice as I seem not to be able to retrieve the file. It is on disc as .iso for better or worse.
I should have saved the file to my hard drive so I could send it to you..

No no, don't send files like that around. Those are paid-for (or should be). If you selected Ashampoo's BURN ISO option AND you selected a file that worked, then all is fine. You should be able to plug that disk into the computer, open MY COMPUTER and take a look at it's contents.

If you burned an .EXE file using AShampoo's FILES & FOLDERS option, you should be able to plug that disk in, use MY COMPUTER and see that single .EXE file on that disk.

    That's all you need.

First of all, thank you or letting me know about the legality of the file -I did not realize it.
Secondly, I was lucky and found that I burned the office file as you said, files/folders and the iso image file with the appropriate .iso choice .
This was just confirmed by a friend.
I appreciate the instructions about viewing the contents.

I think I have to adjust auto play so the disc won't boot right a way and gives me a chance to look at the contents.
    Thank you once again,
    Peter
