External HD 'partition' has no drive label and cant access files via usb cable etc.

How to fix, if possible (maybe with free tool), without loosing (150gb) data on the disk ?

Maybe an answer on another MG thread ?

Other browsing mostly loses all data on the 'drive' partition.

AOMEI Partition Assistant Home Edition is a freeware download from Major Geeks. It has the ability to convert between GPT and MBR without losing data. 32-bit XP doesn't support GPT type disks so that's why it's showing as protected and you can't access your files.

If the drive is larger than 2TB though, there may be a problem because MBR disks have a 2TB limit. AOMEI has a considerable amount of online help although, it's a company out of China and the English isn't the best. But download and install AOMEI and go through the help files BEFORE attempting the conversion. It will help you determine if you can perform the conversion safely.

Ooops!... Re: Way to fix 32 bit xp 'gpt protective partition' ?

Ooops!... Just realized the HD has been formatted for a Mac.
Now the apparent problem, after trying to transfer folder/file with a Mac, is...
The 'steps' indicate the problem has been fixed after Mac OS X 10.6.2, but this Mac is running 10.8.5 and having same problem.
So not sure if fix at http://www.macyourself.com/2010/01/07/solution-to-finder-error-code-36-in-10-6-when-copying-folders/ will actually work, ie not sure if files may be lost.
I searched MG forums for 'Mac Error code 36' and didnt find anything.
I realize this new question is off-topic, but if you have any help ideas/reference it would be much appreciated.
And, thanks much for the reply !
