What the [censored] is wrong with W8?

Have a brand new Asus X75A with W8 on it. Out of the box, installed updates once with McAfee removed and once with it installed, and once with a "critical update" from Asus, and once without it, I have reset this OS back to the OEM state four times for sanity's sake.

I have used all "FixIt" tools, eliminated crapware, and even installed updates with, and without an AV suite installed. Nothing works after it installs the first 99 updates, and then attempts and fails at the next fourteen. This includes the last time with ALL crapware, AV suite, and implementation of the "Update Troubleshooter", and the "FixIt" tool from MS.

No matter what I've done to solve this update issue, I get no definable error message and all it does is state Windows is "Reverting Changes" and the tools provided by MS are :*** useless.

Anyone seen this, and/or have a solution which has not occurred to me?

Sorry I did not mean "are you" I should have said have you tried updating to Win8.1?

Your computer is new and under warranty. So, either return it to the seller if you are still within the seller's allowable return policy, or contact the manufacturer's tech support to get this resolved.

Problem with returning the unit is it was purchased on clearance, because it was what the client could afford and there is no affordable unit in stock to replace it with. This is a favor for a co-worker, and if it was billed hourly MS would already be in hock for over 12 hours of uptime. Personally, I'd like to stick them with a bill for the hours of my life I can't get back.

I have used DOS based commands, the MS approved tools, and all the hardware checks out. This includes HDD and RAM. Seems that this is a problem out there in cyberspace, as there is another thread on this very forum with the same issue.

This strictly W8, and has been incapable of, and unable to install updates in sufficient quantity to reach updating to 8.1.

I have a new ROG laptop. Very nice hardware, came with Windows 8. I never got it running with all my games, see the huge number of threads at Asus forums.

Then look for the Windows 7 thread, there is one with all the drivers you need. I am not sure what the problem was, but it was MUCH faster to install 7. I spent days trying to fix 8. As an aside, Win8 runs perfectly on my Asus desktop.

Does not matter what was paid for it, if it was new it came with a manufacture warranty for one year. http://www.service.asus.com/#!netbook-warranty/ceqv
Should probably start with contacting Asus.

Nope. Not how I do things. We solve problems in my neck of the woods, not pawn them off.

In the other thread which had the same query, I posted as such:

Scratch the "nothing works" statement. DO NOT bother with "FixIt" tools. DO NOT bother opening a window and running DOS commands. DO NOT bother to reset your PC. DON'T waste your time returning your PC, or sending it in under warranty.

DO install all updates not identified as security updates, then at your leisure painstakingly install any "Security" update ONE at a time. DO keep your eye out for KB2871690, as this will fail EVERY TIME if you don't disable secure boot, and if you want to enable it after the update. PAY NO ATTENTION to those who tell you KB2871777 is a required prerequisite. Even if you have it (and make sure you do) it will not help you with the failure.

Good luck folks, and here is a tutorial in case you don't know how to disable Secure Boot:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn481258.aspx

The KB2871690 update is the crux of the failure. Disable "Secure Boot" and you'll have W8 proper, you can upgrade, and of course MS takes no responsibility for this error. If you still want Secure Boot, re-enable it.

I fail to see how contacting Customer Support from Manufacture for a under warranty product is pawning off the problem. Anyway glad you figured out the problem.

Unfortunately I have never had a good experience with MS, or Asus tech support. What actually got me back into "the game" about fifteen years ago was my first (and only) P4 with RIMMs and Windows Me. HP was pretty much useless with that OS/hardware, and I've learned it's better to ask the forum if anyone has encountered a similar issue yet. Of course, just because I ask, doesn't mean I stop working on the issue. Actually I think it's :*** hilarious that they lock themselves out of their own OS with security protocols and upgrades. :-D

Never surrender to a hunk o' silicon...

    Thanks for the better link.

Ended up installing updates individually to ferret out which one(s) was/were the headache. Nothing like advances in tech, to make sure you need a tech...
