Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

My Lady (my wife) is having a Total left Hip Replacement tomorrow morning. The hip socket has deteriorated over time (exacerbated by arthritis and T2 diabetes) so the titanium replacement seems to be the best course at this point.

Because of my military medic training and civilian EMT experience I was able to talk the surgeon into allowing me to scrub and observe the procedure in the operating room. I'll be standing appx. 10 feet from the table with an unobstructed view.

    Wish us luck.

I hope everything went well and she has a speedy recovery :cool
My aunt had the same op done last year and now wonders why she put it off for so long (it wasn't a money thing stopping her) :confused

I'm sure things will be fine.
My mom had hers done 6 yrs ago, went from lots of pain walking to no pain at all in just a few days
I have a friend who had both THRs, 2yrs apart, he's doing great.

They know so much about what they are doing, my only suggestion is bring a stool while you watch them do her THR and please, let us know how well she recovers

May the odds be in your favor/

Quick trip home for shave and shower, so a quick update: everything went very smoothly, she's doing wonderfully - already up and walking, doing therapy, eating solidly, negligible pain yet (more to come from therapy, we're sure). She's a real trooper - we're all extremely proud of the woman.

Thank you all so much for your well wishes - I'll post more about the surgery asap.

Wow! Up already. That's awesome. I'm sure they will work her hard, but it'll all be worth it. Glad to hear it all went smoothly. :)

Good stuff and glad all went well with the surgery.... seems she is doing fantastic up and walking already, that will likely help recovery.

Congratulations on such a good outcome :cool
Surprised she is up and walking already as my wife had a hysterectomy on Valentines Day and she didn't get out of bed for two and a half days and although she is almost off the painkillers now there is still a quite way to go before she is really mobile again.
Your wife must be very strong and as you say a real trooper :-D
Best wishes for her speedy recovery :)

Pretty brave of you to watch the operation........ I get queasy when my dog is vaccinated rolleyes

Glad all went well. Getting her up and moving will really help the rehab.
I had a titanium spacer replace the cartilage in left knee 12 yrs ago and the orthopod (a friend of mine) told me to lie in bed a week and then move my leg. I thought I would die when the therapist moved my leg for the first time. Saw God and all the angels. He now gets his patients moving the same or next day.

She will do well. All the best.:-D

Glad that all went well caliban. Wishing that your lady will have a speedy recovery. :)

PS: You really stood by your wife in the OR. I guess only very few husbands would be able to do that.
