I am suddenly having a problem with my Windows Live Mail. I cannot send out an email to anyone with or without an attachment. Microsoft suggested removing my virus scan and that didn't work. Still looking for some help. Here is the message I get.

If you are able to browse the net but can't send email then it's likely that the SMTP server is down. Nothing you can do but wait patiently - or get a Gmail account of course ;) No such irritations with Gmail.

I can send email if I go to my ISP's home page and log in there to send and receive mail.

That confirms that your ISP's outgoing server is down. Is there a forum where you can check what other members are experiencing? Or a Status page on the site?

The port should be 587, not 25 and authentication needs to be enabled.
Posted by someone who had the same problem with Live mail and Comcast as the isp.

I'll check it out this evening and see if that fixes it.

    That was the trick. Thanks.
