Speed up Windows XP

It's old Acer Aspire .... keeping it in reserve, in case my actual laptop breaks down.
What kind of drivers do u mean?

 

You may need Audio (for sound), Touchpad, Video, etc. Acer may not have Windows Vista drivers for the laptop. I recommend you go to the Acer support page and enter the Serial Number of the laptop and download the Windows XP drivers for the laptop. That way you'll have them if you need them and from my personal experience with my upgrade to Vista, the XP drivers work fine (even though my Alps Touchpad driver says it's not compatible with Windows Vista — when that message comes up after I restart my computer, I click on "Run Program" and it works).

Haven't heard from you in a couple of days. How is it going with tht XP laptop? Were you able to wipe the hard drive. Were you able to install the Vista trial? Did you get the device drivers from Acer?

Vista has become somewhat slow for me but I'm not sure if it's because I changed the allocation on one of my external data drives from the default and I've always got that drive connected to my laptop. I haven't tried running the external drive under XP. If that is also slower, I'll know I've got to change the allocation back to the default.

I know you're already somewhat familiar with Vista because your other computer runs Vista. But if you have issues on the XP computer when you change it over to Vista, feel free to ask questions. If I can't help, I'm sure someone else can. But, just to be on the safe side, you may want to start a new Vista thread in Software.
