    Hi Guys

I have always thought I wanted a mini-ipad (Apple)...however research is suggesting that the Samsung devices run with Google Play apps are overall better.

    What are people's views?

I know with Android there are less apps to choose from, however, there are still plenty. The Android Samsung ones appeared more flexible as they took in an extra memory card to increase the size.

What are the other pros and cons?

Which one would you choose? Or is there a post somewhere already on here that I havent found?

Is there a web-site anywhere that does a direct comparison...just need to find the Samsung one to compare to the standard Apple mini-ipad.

I asked 2 different guys in the large store today and they gave me conflicting views, doh!

    Cheers in advance :)

This is like asking which auto is better Ford, Chevy, or Toyota. It is more of a personal preference thing, ask 100 people and you get divided answers. I tried a few tablets and the biggest thing I found was some could not be far from my router or they would not keep a signal. Other than that I liked the Samsung Galaxy just fine and it does have flexibility where Apple ties you to their stuff more.

The very best Tablet I have had was the Nokia N800 it ran on Linux and was the size of a phone. I was sad that Nokia dropped the Internet Tablet. It was a great little tablet that had the capability of doing most everything my computer could do but small enough for my pocket.

    Hi Kat Kat
"I tried a few tablets and the biggest thing I found was some could not be far from my router or they would not keep a signal."
Yes, I have found this with my ipod. It can sit on my wi-fi laptop which gets a perfect signal but my ipod doesnt or if it does it is very intermitant. However, it works in different places in the house which are nearer to the router.

I am worried when I buy a mini ipad or equiv that the wifi wont work in certain places (like the lounge :( ). However, that wont be the end of the world as once things are downloaded, certain apps, I'll be able to use them still.

I prob need to think about trying to move our router to a more central location in the house if that is possible OR yesterday the chap in the store mentioned a router booster....have you ever heard of them and do you think that they may work????

I'd like to hear from anyone who knows about the router boosters???

    Cheers

    J :)

    Hi jacknscoob
I don't have a router booster. I did complain to my internet provider about loosing signal often and getting kicked off the internet and they come out and installed a new router at no cost to me. I downloaded inSSIDer which showed me what channel my neighbors were using and I set mine to a different channel. I don't have problems with losing signal now.

As a bona fide Geek, I find Apple deplorable on many levels from it's OS functionality, proprietary connectors (which they admittedly have gotten away from), all the things that still are proprietary about it, and right down to a complete lack of access to a BIOS. For someone who enjoys the freedom of customizing hardware, Apple is completely useless and in my opinion a total pile of :crap. Android's open source is the complete opposite of Apple.

The way I see it, Apple=Fascism, and PC/Android=Freedom.

However, if you are a user who will do no customizing and just want it to work by the "push of a button", then you may have no issue with an Apple and actually like it.

EDIT: And, your best bet is to centrally locate your router.

Where to locate your router might surprise you. It is not always about distance but sometimes about what in in your walls between the router and where you want to be. Mine use to be centrally located and I just moved it to the far end of the house and I get a better signal there. You just have to move yours around and see what works best for you.:)
My old router was a dinosaur and that is most likely why they gave me a new one. Never hurts to ask.;)

Plaster walls, and double brick aside, I do need to amend that post.

In MOST cases centrally locating your router in a home less than fifty years old is a "best case scenario".

If your house is older, added on to, or otherwise unconventional in construction; trial and error prevail...
