Going from XP, SP3 to win7, how do I transfer m/s works to the new system? Some say you can do it, others say not. I don't have the original disc.

I should add that it's an old version, 4.5. However, it ran fine on XP. (32 vs. 64, tho.)

Sorry but it isn't possible to move applications from one system to another, they have to be reinstalled. Works is a poor thing, you would be far better off with the free OpenOffice. OpenOffice can read and write MS Office files but don't know about MS Works files.

Thanks for the input. Luckily, I was able to find the original Works disc which was buried in a M/S Home Essentials 98 disc. Unbelievably it installed perfectly on my new Win7 system.

I'm curious. What parts of Works do you use? If only the word processing part, I think the Windows 7 WordPad is just a good, if not better.

I just use the Spreadsheet section. For letters etc., I use M/S Word.

I also use Msworks and always put it on a new computer.(have the CD).
I have my complete DVD inventory on it, and I find it the easiest program to use.

I also like the word processor function.

So, you have MS Office, right? What version? If you have Office, why use the much lower-featured Works?

Works came with my computer in '98 so I started using its spreadsheets. Then someone gave me a copy of Office 2000 but I kept using Works even tho I was proficient with Excel back then. I just use works for auto, etc., maintenance logs and some other minor things. Nothing too involved.
