Vista 32-bit restarts after shutdown and closing the lid. No virus. Any ideas?

Go to Control Panel -> Power Options and change the settings to what you want the computer to do when you close the lid and press the Power button (see att'd).

I had this problem on my PC and this fixed it:

I had the same problem, this is what I did and it works fine now.... very easy to do. Careful when your in the Registry.

Try this: Press (Windows Key)+R and type in regedit and hit enter. Locate the following key:

    Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

    Double Click on "PowerdownAfterShutdown"

    Then,
Change it to "0" if it is "1" OR
Change it to "1" if it is "0".

    And hit Enter.

Then restart the computer and after it restarts try to shutdown again. Hopefully this will work for you. :)

***If this doesn't work make sure you change the value in regedit back to what it was originally***

Thanks to Brandon Ouellette as I took his advice!!

Go to Advanced Power Options and scroll down and expand, media sharing.

Mine is set for Away, which works for my Sleep setting.

What PSCO2007 may work but, the processor needs to allow sleep mode as well. Go into Control Panel -> Power Options -> Edit Plan Settings and click on Change advanced power settings. Scroll to Multimedia settings, expand it, then expand When sharing media. From the drop-down for On battery and the one for Plugged in, change those to Allow the computer to sleep (see att'd).
