Should I keep my old monitor with Win 8.1?

I am replacing my old (8 year old) computers (mine and my wifes) with the latest and I hope the greatest. One question though. She does writing on hers using Word and I do genealogy on mine. Neither of us do much in the way of gaming, just play bridge or solitaire. We are thinking of keeping our old monitors which are realatively new (3 years old) but are a bit confused as to how much the touch screen under 8.1 is necessary.

    Any comments are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
    Mike

The touchscreen feature isn't necessary since you have a keyboard and mouse. The only issue might be Windows 8/8.1 drivers for the monitor. But then again, using Windows update may locate and install appropriate drivers.

The touchscreen feature might make the games easier and quicker but, the virtual keyboard may be more difficult especially if your wife is a fast typist.

I agree, I have used windows 8 and 8.1 without a touchscreen and as long as you learn the new mouse gestures, you don't need the touchscreen; but as mdonha said, it would make certain tasks a lot easier.
