    Hi

What version and Service Pack for Windows do you have?
    Did Defender find malware?
What other if at all anti-virus software do you have installed, please name all?

By not boot anymore, what do you see on screen, does windows freeze, do you get an error message?

Can you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode With Networking)?

My brother got it to come on he said he formatted it I now have to update everything.

I am now sure what service pack was previously on it I am updating the computer today
The computer had Norton (360 or internet security) which did not find anything with a full system scan.
Defender found alureon which it was deleting. I went to turn the computer back on I could not proceed to the login page.
The computer would go to the start windows normally/launch startup repair screen. Once I click start normally it would go right back to that screen. When I tried Launch startup repair screen it would search and not find a solution.

I did not get a chance to try the safe mode boot but I did attempt to boot from last known good configuration. I think the computer may still be infected.

I was attempting to fix our main computer which I think is messing up other computers on the wifi. Any computer on our wifi get popups when we click a link. If I disconnect the main computer and run the wifi through my laptop we no longer get popups. Also if I take my laptop to a friends no popups. I hope this helps with any other trouble shooting.

You said your brother got it to boot up. Is that where you are now? Did he do a repair install?

Yes, that is where I am at everything work on it like before. I am not familiar with a repair install. He said he went into system recovery and was able to format it and it started working. Is there a way to check if the virus is gone the popups still exist.

It looks like I just purchased it and using it for the first time. I know we lost files/downloads but we can do without them.

So he did a complete reformat and reinstall. Any issues you may be having should be pursued in the software forum.
