    Hello,

The other day I was trying to torrent a game. It was wrong to do, and stupid to do, and honestly, this ordeal is reason enough to never do it again.

When I downloaded the program, I got 5 programs that I did not sign up for in my list of programs. Four of them I was able to just unistall from the control panel. One I was unable to uninstall:
    System Update kb70007

My chroms and firefox browsers were uninstalled from my computer. When I loaded IE, it redirected me to v9.com. I reinstalled firefox and chrome. Both of them redirect there. All three browsers have adware - popups on sites that don't have them, new tabs opening to ad pages when I click a text box, banners on the sides, or bottom, of the window.

I have followed the stickied threads, and will attach my logs. If anyone assists, I will promise to "pay it forward" to some stranger this week!

    Thank you!
    :)

Are you using a proxy server on this system?

Rerun Hitman and have it remove all it finds.

Reboot and rescan with both RogueKiller and Hitman, attach the logs.

I have never consciously set up a proxy server, but checking my firefox settings, yes, I am running a proxy server.

I ran Hitman and removed everything they said, except the proxy lines, which they recommended "repair."

I rebooted. I am attaching the log from before the reboot, as well as the RogueKiller and Hitman logs.

[Side note: initially firefox and chrome were uninstalled, but I still had IE. Now, I cannot find IE, and search for it with no success. But I cannot download IE because the downloader says my computer already has IE. Not sure if this is relevant]

    Sincere thanks for your time.

Rerun RogueKiller and click on the DNS tab and fix those items. Tell me how things are running.

    Fixed the DNS list.

Still getting the same popups in Firefox and Chrome. Still getting linked to new tab advertisements from malware source.

You can try using Revo Uninstaller to remove both Chrome and Firefox and System Update kb70007

    Reboot and run CCleaner.

Then reinstall and see if the issues remain.

Did this, and the popups/new tabs have gone away. Thank you very much for your patient assistance!

    Good to know.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
