From how the TV described it, the way the chinese "hacked" into these companies was by getting one employee to click on a link in an email, which would allow the virus to infect the network

dont these people know dont open mail you dont recongize, don't talk about fight club, don't click links in wierd emails?

    This sounds like bogus.

    http://asia.nikkei.com/Politics-Eco...ons/US-charges-5-in-Chinese-army-with-hacking

The hackers also targeted Alcoa Inc. executives, and were able to steal at least 2,907 emails and roughly 863 attachments from that company's computer system, the indictment charges.

Alcoa Inc. spokeswoman Monica Orbe said, "to our knowledge, no material information was compromised during this incident which occurred several years ago. Safeguarding our data is a top priority for Alcoa and we continue to invest resources to protect our systems."

The group also allegedly hacked into employee email accounts for officials at a union of manufacturing and energy workers, according to the indictment. The union, the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union, also known as USW, had long criticized Chinese trade practices.

Not sure how your employees are but the ones I work with get mad, sleepy or just act stupid at times. It's why we run anti-virus and scan with Malware Bytes.
Smart people do some dumb things.
In their defense, email from China is very hard to verify. Especially if you don't read Chinese. We buy from a few vendors there so errant email openings and malicious links are part of the game.

Think this has always gone on and more so in days of old it was a real live person that infiltrated a company to steal secrets, these days much easier to do this electronically and I would stick my neck out and say all govs around the world with the technology to do this, will be doing it.

Just have to get better at securing secrets!

    agreed
so who thinks this is a GOOD idea?
not me and I see no point in it
    http://www.myfoxny.com/story/25268815/future-of-money

we have this already with credit cards, right?
"And so, rather than having to wait in a line, or the time to actually pay, you can just be like, 'Boom. That's was I want' really fact and like be able to leave really quickly and know that it might be secure too," Schlegel says.

I couldnt figure out how "paying with my veins" allowed me to "BOOM" get in/out

The problem is the stores still need to scan what you have, right? and I need to make sure that I get the price that was the product was advertised for.

Customers register their social security number and phone number wtih an installed terminal along with payment information.

After that they can pay via vein-scanning. The company claims the payment process takes less than five seconds

and why do I want to give away my social security number?
What I like is SELF service machines,
this helps me avoid the cashier looking at everything I buy and talking to me, "oh, this looks good" *holds it up to read what it is*
and helps me avoid people(21st century) writing checks, "what is todays date"..."where am I?"

When I go to self service at walmart/Sams club, the whole process takes me about 2-5 minutes(sams I don't bag, so its faster)

I don't see the pros to having an implant pay for my goods?
I just see it easier for my SEKRETS to be exposed to the world

Read the article thanks for posting and the main issue I have with vein scanning is that its flawed, just like retina scanning in that its null and void if you have some injury or trauma to a body part like eye (can get uveitis, retinal issues of veins etc) then with a hand, what if you damage part of it, do you suddenly have your account frozen.

Security is not an easy thing and do we use fingerprints, again flawed with injury to a digit!

Do we implant RFID under our skin?

Not to get to OT, but I refuse to use self checkout lines. It saves the company some $ not to pay a cashier, but they don't pay me to check out and pay for my stuff. Being a cashier is a decent entry level job. People have to learn how to work somehow.

At the local Home Depot, they have the self check lanes, but they have an employee there to do it for you. :confused Only thing I can figure is corporate wants a certain % of sales to be on the self check vs live cashier.

Actually I agree with you Fred on the self checkouts as I attempted using one late night at local ASDA (Walmart group in UK) and PITA, when you have to then get a checkout operative to sign in for authorising alcohol sales, so what's the damn point in self checkout when you still need a person!

I had a very similar situation happen to me a few years ago.. At walmart, I was checking out at the self-checkout, I was buying some gatorade/food and a movie(van wilder, maybe) on my way home from the gym(547am)
I needed to be OVER 18 to buy the movie, I'm nearly 2x that age....but the machine wanted approval from a clerk.
SHE asked me for ID, I didnt have my wallet, I had my credit card, gym card and my school ID on me, my wallet was in my car....

Besides looking OVER 18 or 21(whatever it was)
I showed HER my GOVERNMENT ISSUED SCHOOL ID(state school)
    not good enough
she would not let me buy the movie

I went to my car, got my ID, unloaded my food, went back inside, got my movie went to a CASHIER, was prepared to show HIM my ID, it never came up since he never asked for it...

I love places and people to be consistent. Few are.

I never got asked for ID in my life until I was in my thirties:-D Back to the story.

Charges? Don't you have to have someone in custody to charge them? More like they've super state finger pointied some government guys in China.

You do know that wally world employees are literally required to ask for ID, regardless of how old you look, right?

Around here it is because stupid high school kids try to sneak beer through the self-checkout all the time...

I have a bonus/club card at the grocery store where I do most of my grocery shopping, and as long as I swipe that card the system recognizes me as being old enough to buy alcohol, so no person is needed for self-checkout. Very handy.

And I love the self-checkout machines. Before they arrived, going to get groceries meant being forced to be friendly and interact with people, regardless of whether I wanted to or not. Now I don't have to do that anymore. :)

I cannot agree more, I could try, but it would be in vain.

I do not like the cashier inspecting my food
I'm just not in the mood
    Unless she is hot
    but undoubtedly she's not
I am too nice to be rude

I understand rules are rules, which is why I pointed out I had my state school ID with me.
That's a valid ID that also comes from the state. it just doesn't allow me to drive.

Plus, the fact I have a wallet full of other ID cards, credit cards, etc. AND the male cashier let me go through with no hassle at all, tells me:

The issue was the employee finally had some power to exert over anyone who wasnt her cat and wouldn't accept it.
    Logical, no,
    Emotional, yes.

Or was this a joke about the Griswolds and walmart is wally world?

well said about the cons to using anything but a card.
I just don't see the pros and the article I posted about it only listed "speed" as the only pro.

To use my Dad's work computer, he must insert a code and his ID card(which stays in the computer while he works). about 1x a year, he'll have to go home cause he forgot his ID card and thus he can't do work/get in the building.

on the other end of the spectrum to access any of my accounts(facebook. email., bank, other forums(except my overly complicated skool account) you just need to add 1 letter to the username.
and my "security answer" is always the same answer, regardless of the question.
So why some accounts DO NOT let you use the same answer?(seriously, how does it hurt security if ALL My answers are the same?) I just modify the last letter(s)

so did you never go to bars/casinos/clubs? or do you just look old?
I get ID'd hard; last time I was at the casino, the cop, kept scratching at my Drivers license, which just made me say, "I'll just get that back on my way out" and I started to go in...no one laughed...;)

  19. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

Both:-D The age laws are a lot more lax in the uk, or they were when I was younger, now you have to look over 25 so every so often there's a newer store clerk who wants to keep their job and they'll ID me, only when I have a baseball hat on covering my bald pate, but it still makes my day.:cool

did you go to casinos when you were younger or ever able to buy booze/cigs without an ID

Except that valid ID has DOB on it, and is a Driver's License.

  22. watchntv

    watchntv Private E-2

still a valid Id just lacks a DOB and doesnt let me drive.
but works to get me discounts at places that require and ID, like movies or bowling, again the problem at walmart was not a lack of ID,but power play by the lady.
    :-D

  23. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

So you don't understand why an ID that doesn't have your DOB on it isn't valid to show proof of age?

    Sounds legit.

  24. watchntv

    watchntv Private E-2

whoa slow down there man,(puts on helmet) now go ahead, but dumb it down a notch..:)

I understand why its not a valid proof of ID., BUT my checking out with the movie and not needing ID of any sort, I established, Proof of age/any ID to buy van wilder(movie) wasn't needed
Do you get that yet? That's why it doesnt matter what ID I showed it, it was irrelevant. I bought the movie without showing ID hence why I attribute the need for the lady to see the ID as a power play.
    Are we clear yet?
I can break down further if need be, or I can let you borrow my helmet.

Moving on, on a side note, the kollege ID got me the college kids bowling discount, When the lady asked me for college ID, I showed it to her, granted, its the same ID card I've had since 18 and I don't have a side spike or a goofy grin with braces anymore, but it worked.....I got the $1/game discount(and yeah, I'm still in kollege):cry

    more about ID cards

in 2012, I lost 80lbs to win a weight loss contest($1200) and every week or so, I'd go back to Sams Club and get a new ID card,,, because they took my picture, so I could see my face thin out
NO DOB, Nothing but my name and picture, but I have used these as ID cards because they PROVE MY NAME AND FACE BELONG TO ME:cool

    http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z271/watchntv/SAMS_zps3fc24a18.jpg

    even more on ID card
November 2002, I was back in town, living with my friends(still doing rehab though from my coma in 2000), but not living with my parents, living 4 hours away at school with my med school friends.
I had a EMERGENCY CARD above my passenger visor for anyone to call in case I died or something bad happened(thanks, mom) it had my Name, DOB, SS. preferred pizza toppings, phone numbers, address, insurance info on it. NO picture
I got pulled over by a cop for something, I had no wallet, No photo ID

the cops said, dude, I need something with your name on it
I gave him the EMERGENCY CARD.(no Photo ID)
Cop took it, looked at it, looked into my backseat window and went to his car.
Came back, handed the card back, told me some story referencing the tux I was returning, and that was it, let me go....

    1. The employee that let you buy the movie without checking your ID is the one who did wrong, at least by store policy standards. Not the one who asked you for an ID.

    2. In order to unlock the self-checkout when it locks up the way it does for products with age restrictions, the clerk needs to put in the customer's birthday. That's why they need your driver's license.

But you, mature that you are, when you were faced with an employee who actually tried to enforce store policy you chose to show them an ID that is worthless for what they actually need it for. Based on your behavior in this thread you then probably threw a hissyfit when they wouldn't take that worthless ID, and you are now trying to defend that behavior by blaming the store employee for your own inability to carry valid state IDs with you.

    Yep. Very mature of you.

defend what behavior? really? what did I do? Talk about idiocy/power play years later on a anonymous internet forum?
I didnt do jack, but you proved you need oto read better. I didnt do anything at all, I just accepted what she said and got my other ID.
see, in real life, My dysarthria is constantly present, so I don't talk very much.
    You Failed again

An employee preventing the sale of a movie to someone who is obviously over 18/21, because she needed a birthdate? LOL dude, seriously is that the best got? nope, power play plain and simple

whats with the stuff you make up about MY behavior? very immature of you. One would ask why you would do something so immature? mad at yourself? bad day? or did you mis read somethin?

no reason to throw you anger at me by making stuff up
try again, just not in dealing with me, otherwise, I'll just use logic and facts and stomp all over you, again(with good leg!):-D

Since it obviously hasn't occurred to you, "he looked old enough" is not a good enough defense when you're at risk of losing your job. Just so you know for next time... rolleyes

My main point remains: They needed YOUR birth date, not an imaginary invented one, and you refused to give it. It doesn't matter how vindicated you think you FEEL, Walmart store policy is to request a valid ID that shows date of birth for all age restricted product, and you refused to produce that kind of ID when asked for it.

And that whole situation still bothers you enough that you throw a hissy-fit when faceless strangers on the internet make it clear we don't agree with your obvious long-lasting grudge against the store employee who asked for your ID, way back then.

    You remain impressively mature. rolleyes

huh? lets look back at last post when you said:
what behaviors? responding to your blatant inaccuracy of what occurred? do you get out much? deal with people much?
it seems not,. as you never showed WTF you are talking about, just that your immature person made more crap up..

speaking of things that make no sense,

if you go on a horseback ride, you have to sign a release, right? so if you get hurt, you cant sue them for being hurt.
Reality is, if you do get hurt, you CAN sue them..I learned that today and I find it so mind boggling,, I bring it up cause your idea of "right/wrong" about a minimum wage employee not IDing someone who is above age VS another employee realizeing they are above age, is somehow right? LOL The manager said it was ridiculous, like if you ran a red light at 3:34am CST after waiting 7 minutes and it didnt turn...

While I am amused at you trying so hard to make any point, I also found this to be funny
A Northern California homeowner who police say survived being shot in the jaw during a burglary is now getting a "punch in the gut": The burglary suspect is suing him for returning fire.

The Marin Independent Journal reported the suspect alleges that Jay Leone, who is 90-years-old, negligently shot the intruder..
    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/burglar-sues-calif-homeowner-90-who-returned-fire/

you'd likely agree, HE SHOT HIM< HE WAS THE WRONG!:-D

Maybe you need to type better? :-D (just joking, I make my share of typos.)

In my state, you are supposed to have ID to buy adult things. Last I checked, for alcohol, it is a $500 fine to the employee and $500 fine to the binus owner. If you cost your boss $500, and are minimum wage, most likely fired.

Have your legit ID ready when you want to purchase adult stuff, don't blame the cashier. How hard is it to show your ID? You did drive to the place right? Gonna tell a cop you don't need your DL if you get pulled over? Cause it ain't convenient?

Keep in mind, many cashiers don't make a whole lot of cash, and have regulations to follow. Around here, the BATF finds people who look over the legal age but are not of legal age and send them into stores to buy tobacco and beer. And then they bust the folks that sell to them.

Heck if I got carded, I would be happy. ;)
