I’m fed up of trying all these so called free International calling apps. If the call quality is good the subscription rates are high and when the subscription rates are low the call quality sucks big time or sometimes you are forced to complete some lame sponsor offers to get free credits. Guess I’ll have to go back to using calling cards. I’m a student and just cannot afford to shell a lot of money on making International Calls.:(

It can get quite frustrating especially when you have so many options to choose from but nothing which suits the bill. Irrespective of which voip calling app you use you'll have to look out for 2 factors .Firstly check how the VoIP app handles voice traffic and secondly if the voip client offers nominal unit call rates to the countries you’ll be calling the most . My personal favorites are Groove IP to make calls within US and Global Call to call Asia.

I don’t know much about voip handling traffic and stuff. I make most of my calls to Philippines and Vietnam.Bluntly putting it I'm just looking for cheaper option .I know there is no dearth of option for calling apps to call within US .btw I've never heard of Global Call . I tried checking online .There are lots of apps with the same name .Is it a new app?

Even I wasn’t aware of this app until recently when I went on a business trip to Japan. I guess it’s a popular app in Asia .I know there are many apps with same or similar sounding name but its pretty easy to spot Global Call on Google Play. This link should take you there https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lguplus.GCAClient

Trac-Fone is the only reliable domestic to international network I personally know of.

However, it may not be available in your area.

There are Trac-Fone reatailers in my area but when I checked online its pretty expensive alomost $100 for 400 minutes .

I just downloaded Global Call using that link.Though the rates seem cheaper than the calling cards I'm using I'm a bit sceptical about trying a new app.rolleyes

Since the rates are as low as 6 cents to call Vietnam you can purchase few credits and try it for yourself and see if it suits your requirement but if you are still sceptical about trying Global Calll then looks like it’s the right time to do a trial run since they are running a promotion where you get double credit benefits. Thanks for sharing this link . Global Call offer looks really nice. I'll just but $10 credits to start off with and see how it goes. I guess this offer along with cheap call rate of 6 cents per minute is the best voip deal at the moment to call Vietnam.

StraightTalk gives unlimited text, talk, data, and international calling for $60 a month. That's unlimited for domestic calls as well, which would be a decent deal if you're also in the market for a cell phone.

MajicJack lets you make calls from one majicJack to another for free, anywhere there's high speed internet. A year of service for one is $29.95 after the initial purchase of the majicjack device. If you're only calling one number in Vietnam and doing it a lot it may be worth while.

Just keep in mind you can avail this offer just once.In order to maximize the benefit from this offer you'll have to purchase $50 worth of credits (that's the maximum amount you can avail) so that you get $100 total credits.

I like paying for what I use and apps like straight talk which come with subscriptions don't work for me looking out for apps similar to Global Call which spare me the monthly subscription and don't have hidden charges . Magic Jack is also similar and since I call both Vietnam and Phillipines it doesn't suit my usage pattern.

StraightTalk isn't an app, it's a mobile phone service. If you're already paying $60 a month for mobile phone already you could switch and have unlimited talk, text, data, and international calling for $60 a month. It's not a contract, you don't sign up for a 1 or 2 year commitment but rather buy a month's worth of time (30 days actually). If you don't buy another 30 days or larger block of time there is no penalty, no hidden fees. But there is the initial expense of buying the phone. Again it's a decent deal if you're in the market for a cell phone. Depending on your phone you could use your current phone, if it's supported.

I am also a fan of VOIP devices. I found this widget that lets you compare the prices of different devices.
