    Hi yall,

First let me say thanks for any help offered cos this is driving me nuts!!!!

Last night everything worked fine, but this morning when I switched on the system I had no sound.

    Device manager says no conflicts,
Audio driver says up to date, no conflicts.
Realtek HD Audio manager says working perfectly, not muted.

Tried uninstalling and re-installing sound and drivers but it didn't work, restarted system multiple times but again no change. Nothing has been added or removed since it was working and worst still acording to the graphic equiliser and the audio device when I have something playing sound it says it is running normally.

My system is an acer aspireSA90

Upgraded CPU to a Quad core 2.4 from pentium D
" " Graphics to Gainward gtx250 green edition
    " " Ram to 2 GB

Still running vista though (this is my next change ).

    PLEASE, PLEASE help someone.

Forgot to say occationally when I try to run any media it reports there is already a program using this device, but I cant find anything and its only once or twice. but the sound never works.

Have you checked to see if sound is disabled?

    Should probably mention.

1; Tried speakers in laptop and they worked fine.
2; Tried headphones instead of speakers and they still didn't work.
3; When I switch on any media the computer acts like it is working, it just doesn't seem to get to the jack.
4; checked inside system and all wires are still conected.

Is the sound icon showing on the task bar? If it is then click on it then click mixer to check if anything has been muted

    Hi

    What Windows version you using?

What I would do in this case is to install chipset driver and reboot and then install audio driver and reboot and check.

SA90 drivers HERE Search for Aspire SA90 and choose Windows version and install Chipset if applicable and Audio driver and reboot, and test.

Use this also to test for audio issues HERE

Ah that's fine as ACER has Vista 32 and 64bit drivers for this PC model and Audio.

The microsoft fix it says there are no problems with the device, will try installing chipset and audio drivers now.

Can't find chipset on the page so will try audio drivers first

You said it isn't showing up in device manager right? Did you ever scan for hardware changes while in device manager?

Audio shows up in device manager, it doesn't show up as having a problem or being disabled.

Have checked for hardware changes on several occations.

No luck with re-installing audio drivers unfortunately.

    OK

After re-installing audio drivers I re started my system and no change. Next I have up dated the drivers to the latest version and again re-started my system.

Now it states "NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVICE IS INSTALLED"

How the (insert explicites here) is this possible.

Just checked device manager it registers there is realteck hd audio, its only the taskbar at the bottom of the screen that says no device.

Going through everything on the system again and have just noticed that Realtek registers as being on ATAPI internal ATAPI jack but I dont have an ATAPI conection in my controlers. Don't know if this is relevant or not though, or even what it looks like / where it is.

I found this might help out..
Check with your System maker's Support and their forums (if any).

Did you check at the device maker's site for the latest drivers?

Realtek - HD Audio Codec Driver on right side
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/

Download - SAVE - go to right click on and RUN AS ADMIN

NOTE : Sound drivers often rollback so check the version after installation and the reboot to
see if the version you installed is there, if not repeat the install - reboot until it is. It can take
several tries depending on how many rollbacks it does.

It could be that the sound card has just went bad - may be time for a new one
