My computer is only 1 yr old and started shutting down for no reason. When it comes back up it has a future time and date on it? I change it back to the right date and it seems to operate ok but as soon as I leave the computer it happens again?

I thought it was a malware problem and I contacted MajorGeeks. I followed the instructions for the Malware removal guide and I attached the logs. TimW (administrator), had me change a couple items and recommended I post my problem in the software forum for additional assistance.

I retained/purchased Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and whenever the computer goes down and comes back up, I have to redo my license! Please help me find out what's going on and how do I fix it?

You may need to replace the clock's battery. The time variation and the fact that you have to re-do your MBAM license indicates this.

Would a bad "clock" cause the computer to shut down? It doesn't make sense to me?

having a bad clock can cause numerous of problems like windows updates etc. so having a bad clock can cause a computer to restart as it might be trying to rectify itself and it can't do.

Like mdonah suggested try replacing the battery and that might work. Its a watch sized battery which is on your motherboard.

Ok, shut the computer down, removed all the connections, opened the side and I'm looking at what appears to be a battery about 3/4" round with a + on it .

Being a novice, how do I remove it? I don't want to touch something I shouldn't!! Duh!!

It helps if you mention the brand and exact model of computer so we can find an image or manual online and tell you what to do.

it is clipped in to place on the motherboard like in these pics. you just need to find the clip and press it and it should come out.

When you put the new battery in, make sure it's the same type battery (ie. CR22 or whichever is the equivalent) and the "+" is showing like it is now. Don't put it in "upside down".

Thanks for all your help, everyone! I took the computer to Best Buy and asked them to put the battery in!! Told them I didn't want anything else done, just get the right battery and put it in.....the battery came in a pack of 4 and the whole deal cost me $10.39. lol
Seems you were right, the computer now comes back with the right time, still having a problem with it going off on it's own, but I'm happy this is fixed!
