I was attempting to edit permissions because the computer was treating my Administrative user account as a scary guest. During that process, it told me that access was denied for the permissions of a folder called "C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32..." and just about every object inside that folder. Upon a google, GAC_32\desktop.ini came up as a negative file. I am viewing all files and folders, and there is no such GAC_32 inside Windows\assembly. With no further adieu, here's the logs as requested.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

It is a Windows System folder which is why you are not allow to touch it.

This is only a problem with certain forms of ZeroAccess infections which you do not have.

You just appear to have some junkware from Conduit as in the below stuff:
    C:\Users\Melanie\AppData\Local\Conduit\BackgroundContainer\BackgroundContainer.dll
    C:\Users\Melanie\AppData\Local\Conduit\BackgroundContainer\TBUpdaterLogic_1.0.0.2.dll

We can remove this junk but first I want to know are you actually having any problems?

Regardless of your answer to my previous question, do the below anyway.

Uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    AVG Security Toolbar
    Java(TM) 6 Update 35
    ScorpionSaver
    Strongvault Online Backup

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Conduit
    C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPC Backup
    C:\ProgramData\Conduit
    C:\Users\Melanie\AppData\Local\Conduit
    C:\Users\Melanie\AppData\Local\NativeMessaging
    C:\Users\Melanie\AppData\LocalLow\Conduit
    C:\Windows\TEMP\*.*
    C:\Users\Melanie\AppData\Local\Temp\*.*

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thanks, chaslang! Sorry for the double-thread-post.

The computer is very slow to start up. My husband's 7 year old computer fires up faster than this 2 year old baby does. Other than that, no problems of note but I am also very cautious. When I was going through the how-to of editing permissions, it did not warn me that some folders would pop up, and so that many permission declines was a red flag for me.

So there are some new icons on my desktop, most notably two desktop.ini's and a thumb.db. Things seem to be running smoothly!

ScorpionSaver refused to uninstall. Windows couldn't find scorpionsaver.msi. It remains stubbornly on the programs list. I do believe I had at one time attempted to remove this program, but I don't remember exactly how.

Strongvault Online Backup wasn't on the programs list.

Normal because we enabled viewing of hidden files. They were always there but hidden before. ;)

Try using the below Revo Uninstaller to uninstall all it:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/revo_uninstaller.html

TAKE CARE NOT TO INSTALL THE 3rd PARTY JUNKWARE. Make sure you uncheck to opt out.

It is in the list I see. Do you see something like the below listed?

    {5E33D30D-D896-4D92-B033-5F45819B2937}

If you still do not see this then again try Revo Uninstaller

ScorpionSaver appears to be wiped out, yay! Unfortunately, still cannot find that CLSID or program titled "strongvault online backup". Thanks much for the help thus far!

    You're welcome.

Delete the below subfolder if it still exists ( it is probably gone already )
    C:\Users\Melanie\AppData\Local\Strongvault Online Backup

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now is everything working okay?
