I have a desktop using Windows 7 home.

I dont know if this is a coincidence, but ever since I installed the latest windows update, my computer is running so slow that sometime my cursor lags . And every time I try to play avi, mpeg, mp3 etc , they play slowly with lag & distortion. And when I try to watch videos on youtube, they also dont play right. I went to the control panel and uninstalled the update but the problem persists.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. thanks

What windows update is it? Not counting the malicious malware removal tool, there were 5 updates. Did you reboot after you uninstalled the update?
Also what browser and version of the browser are you using?

    Im using firefox 30.0

Actually when I look at my update history , all updates have "failed" since May 1st, except for Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2957503)

    Installation date: ‎6/‎20/‎2014 11:11 PM

it looks like these were the latest to fail : Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2847927)

    Installation date: ‎6/‎21/‎2014 11:25 PM

    Installation status: Failed

    Error details: Code 80070005

Yes my computer restarted on its own today. I got a blue screen and didnt have time to write down the codes . error numbers , etc .

Windows Defender on all my Windows 7 machines has been disabled from almost new. As soon as I installed MS Security Essentials (an av), it disables Window Defender. This is by design. Since you have Avast installed, you do not want Windows Defender enabled. Two av programs running is bad. You can't remove Windows Defender just like you can't remove Internet Explorer. Don't worry about it being disabled.

I am not getting any bluescreens but my computer totally slow, my cursor lags, and all videos & music still completely lags when playing files with VLC & Windows Media, as well as all youtube videos and any voice prompts from apps on my computer. And during all these problems Windows Task Manager doesnt show any high usage percentages. In all honesty it seems as if my computer doesnt want me to play any videos or music...... The first some I noticed this was when I ran windows update. Should I run chkdsk ? Are there any scans I can run to see what apps or things aren't running right ?

And another very strange this is that my computers clock is 15 minutes behind all of the sudden.

If it is a button battery, you'd test it with a battery tester. Truthfully, if it is losing time, look over the manual and see if the battery is a CR2032 (that's pretty common). Buy a battery, they cost under $5 and open the case, remove the old and put in the new being careful to match polarity. Usually the large side (+) with the label CR2032 is facing up and the small side (-) is down.

Do I unplug the computer before I remove the battery ? Do I have to worry about shock even after I unplug it ?

Ive been noticing that flash is using up massive amounts of my memory, sometimes as high as 2.5GB and I only have 3GB of ram. Could this be an issue? and yes my clock keeps getting more and more behind
