My friends computer goes nuts with popups and everythiing soon as she turns it on, so she cantgo your site to download anything. Can I download the "AVG Rescue CD" and burn it then take it to her?

    Will this work?

Yes, it might help. But the best thing for her to do is to sign up here and go through our Malware removal procedures.

You can download the tools to another computer and transfer via cd or thumb drive.

Go ahead and download the AVG Rescue ISO to your computer, burn it to CD, then pop it into your friend's CD drive and reboot. By default, the BIOS should be set up to attempt booting from the CD drive first so you shouldn't need to mess with changing the boot order of the drives. However, you may need to press a key during the boot process, in order to confirm that you want to boot from the CD. Just keep an eye on the screen during the boot process.

I'm not sure what, if anything, is available on the AVG Rescue disk (other than a virus scanner of course). Run the scanner and allow it to fix whatever malware problems it finds. Then remove the CD and reboot. You should then hopefully be able to use a web browser to log onto the malware section of this forum. If the computer is still frazzled after the AVG scan then you could download and try a different antivirus rescue CD. Alternatively, you could download one of several rescue CDs that include a web browser and internet access software, thereby allowing the user to access this forum without the need for loading Windows.

But I'm getting ahead of myself again. First thing is to download the AVG rescue software from here:

Burn the CD, follow the above instructions, then report the results in this thread.

    Good luck!
