Driver update messing with Monitor.

    Good day,

Earlier I downloaded the Advanced System Care 7 and used it with no problems. The program also suggested several sister programs which I accepted and decided to use. The first program, called Driver Booster, found several boosters for my computer that were out of date, one which affected the monitor. I haven't noticed anything untoward the other drivers that were updated, but my monitor went haywire as soon as the Driver Booster finished. The screen started flickering, as if the signal was cutting out, about every half second.

I've tried a restart of the whole system, but all that seems to have done is finalized the updates. Any changes to the screen resolution do nothing, and I can't even swap over to my old monitor, though I'll figure that out later.

At the moment, I'm just looking for help to get the screen to stop flickering. If it helps, the screen does stop when the computer sends it into power save, but I'd like to be able to skip waiting ten minutes to use my computer every time I turn it on.

So, can anyone shoot me any ideas to stop the flickering?

    Thanks.

Hi, MeKono, welcome to Major Geeks. :)

Restore the video driver to the previous version — Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Monitors. Expand and right click the Monitor selecting Properties. Click on Roll Back Driver.

IOBit's Driver Booster is the driver updater that MG's recommends (and uses) but, like anything else, it's not perfect. Sometimes "If it ain't broke don't 'fix' it" is the best policy.

First, thanks for both the welcome and the help. Unfortunately, the roll back driver button stays grayed out even after I authorize moderator functions. Any other options you can suggest? I myself remember the story 'bout the guy with the watch, so I'm wary of hitting the update driver button I found in the menu.

    Thanks again.

Unfortunately, the only other thing I can suggest is uninstall the current driver and re-install the previous one. If you don't have the driver installer handy, go to your computer manufacturer's support site, enter your serial number (or if it's a Dell, your Service Tag number), go to the drivers and downloads section and download the driver from there.

Or try restoring your system to a System Restore Point before the driver updates.

Thanks guys. I'll get to it tomorrow, let you know how it turns out.

Glad you fixed it. :) Out of curiosity, how did you fix it? with System Restore or uninstall current/re-install previous driver?
