The Pres is about to sign into law a bill that will allow all smart phones to be

    "unlocked"

I really hope there is no political over-spin on this new law which will allow users to pick the phone of their choice and use it with which ever carrier/provider the want. Yes, I understand that not "ALL" phones will work on "ALL" systems but for the most part if a phone that you want works on your network type then then your only concern as I see it is the cost of the device which gets heavily discounted when you sign a 2 year contract.

I've never done the math but I purchased a high end phone at the time for $450.00 that was unlocked so I could use it on another service. Next month it will be three years that I've been using my "smart phone" with a monthly charge one fourth the price of the network that the phone was sold for. If my math is correct ( just pulled up my trusty, always there, PC calculator and used this formula: savings per month time 12 months times 4 years I come up with this number: $3360.00

For what it's worth; it's something to consider.

PS My TOP of the line phone is by far not so top of the tine now and I would like to get a new phone. But the ones sold by my provider, although pretty good, are not what I want. So once the law is passed I suppose I then need help to unlock and do the other things necessary for bringing the new phone into parity with my provider.

PS I will confess that I KNOW that my provider is NOT THE BEST but the one I'm pretty sure IS " The Best " does not offer calling and data "packages" that will keep my monthly charges with-in my budget needs.

Thanks for an opportunity to say a few things that might inform those who do not know about "unlocked phones".:major

Correction : "Pres" is meant to mean "President". I tried to make the change in an edit move but was disallowed. This will do. Sorry for any confussion caused by my not proof reading before posting.:-o

You can purchase phones direct from the manufacturer which have no network lock. The only thing you would need to do is insure it is compatible with your cellular provider's network.

Well, if I want to produce the Fred Phone, that works only on the IFred network, why can't I? You can buy it or not.

I think the gubment has much larger issues to address. And this is just silly. IMHO.

    Go bipartisanship? :-D

ATT, T-Mobile, Verizon and the others don't manufacture cellular phones.
