No wireless

    I have a Acer V5-551 laptop that has a wireless card, but doesn't show up in device manager and hardware detection.Is it pretty sure to be a bad wireless card and not the MB?

    Did you accidentally turn it off? Typically one of the function keys on your keyboard can turn it on and off. It would have the wi-fi icon on the top of one of the keys. Some have a switch on the laptop itself as well.

    Reboot into safe mode and see if it shows up in device manager. If it does, delete it and reboot and let Windows redetect.

    Then update the driver. Always update the driver when you have an issue.

    Let me know if this worked.

    I wish it had been that easy, but that wasn't it. It doesn't show up in Device Manager and the function button didn't do anything.

    Have you re-seated the card?

    Sometimes things like cards or RAM can be worked loose from their interface in portable devices. I've seen more than a few laptops which would not boot, and getting it back up and running was a matter of re-seating a DIMM.

    I did take it out and check it. Put it back in and still no wireless. I hope it's the card. I found a new card for 7 bucks on Ebay.

    Update: I put in the new wireless card and I now have wireless.Thank you all for your help.

    Thanks for the update.

    Sometimes it can be tough diagnosing a machine without having it in front of you. My next suggestion would have been to use a known good card.
