Why? Is it dirty? Sort of like when you smell, you take a shower? LOL

;) Kidding. I know some people have mentioned doing it regularly.

Lol, Yeah! like a change of new underwear! I tried 8.1 and i didn't like it so i just went back from a clone copy i had. But it still says i'm on 8.1 but really just on Windows 7. Lol i feel dirty! Need to freshen up with a Win7 pro from July.

I have to agree with Crimson1077, Windows tends to degrade itself if you try out programs. My friend at Logitech had some insight saying "When our software gets uninstalled we want to stay on the computer, even if it means hiding". Their reasoning is that you will not lose settings if you reinstall, but the effect is registry and storage bloat over time.

This comp is Vista, Done 3 installs from recovery this year.I have a folder of programs offline called 'AfterBuild' to get back to regular use. Have a 7 machine boot drive died this week so I used a DAmn Small Linux pendrive on it for a couple days till i got time off.
Bought an 8.1 new. Classic Shelled it right off. Couldn't get proper flv working on it. Too much hassle for even kid's games. Got the 7 working fairly decent after hours same day. Friday I hear "I don't likr this" so 8 is in timeout in the corner. I hope to leave it there.
Maybe buy a 7 dvd. Have all the rest so may as well.

    Glad you are making progress.
Win7 will hopefully be around a LONG time.

Another day into it. My 7 machine is doing fine. This is the vista. I powered up the 8.1 and installed some updates. 64 bit installs of CCleaner, MediaPlayed Home Cinema an VLC - all thanks to major geeks- but still it's a hassle. It's back in timeout!

Buutt- During the same day here I did a backup and recovery on a friend's wife HP ENVOY 8.0 where she forgot her password. ( I see why now with all the different accounts and logons changing just trying to use Windows app store. I forget where I was and probably compromised my age old accounts)

When done - the HP way of doing it on an AIO was really impressive. Mahoong with touch had me and my better half fighting for the screen. Network responded fast. It just felt good and that's 8 not 8.1. With no updates -factory recovery. And it backed up every file before the restore.

I guess it makes a difference in how it's put together. But for now I'm still on this Vista and the best half is liking the '7. I still want a way to get a 7dvd.

Mine is acting stupid, it seems to have a memory leak I can't nail down, and I can't find my CD to run a repair. IOBIT can't find it either, it seems to be explorer.exe being stupid.

I turned in my geek card forever ago, is there a way to run a windows repair without it (the CD)?

I'm running windows 8.1pro and don't have a problem with it but I'm deciding to either stick with windows 8.1pro or try out the windows 10 tech preview but I just don't know due to all my programs and files don't want to lose them.

I've never actually done this, but you can use the Performance Monitor to track down a user-mode memory leak.

Partition the drive, or snag a second one to install it on and dual boot.

the mekanic - spell checker trying to change your name? I stole a song off your list- Hold it now hit it- Other half says thanks.

on topic- I took 8.1 out of time out today. After an hour and half of deleting programs, metro links and anything acer, Norton or mcafee I could find in c.p. registery common files or anywhere else I finally got half of a workable system. Plays videos mp3 and has a desktop without classic shell. On it right now. Soon maybe i'll have it close to a vista or 7 look. Don't need Netflix amazon cookbook maps ebay timeline or most other apps. Have an Internet and Mail folder with all the places I regularly go and doesn't use half the bandwidth of my wireless the way I do it. Terrible to tear apart a brand new machine but it's not what I want. Soon it will be!
