Can't view Target.com (or Walmart.com)

There was a thread on this topic but it's closed.

I'm having the same problem with Target and also Walmart. Sometimes I get a 404 error, other times just a blank page. Tried FireFox, IE and Chrome--same result. I'm running Win 8.1.

Oddly, my wife's laptop, on the same LAN, has no problem (she uses the wi-fi, my desktop is hard wired).

I followed your instructions in Post #8. Installed and ran SuperAntiSpyware and Tweaking.com

Did a clean boot but the repairs got hung up on #10 (13 hours). Started over. Tried a safe mode boot WITH the clean boot and ran it again.

Re-ran file check and had to re-run check disc.

Found corrupt files in CBS.log (whatever that is).

Ran repair with all items checked except 20, 22 & 32. Also checked only Disc C for 2 and 16.

Seemed to go quickly and successfully but.....

Still cannot get Target.com or Walmart.com

And now I have additional problems:

When starting Quicken I get "Quicken does not support the option 'Run as Administrator' Using this option may cause you to have problems printing or other issues. To remedy this we recommend:
    1. Login to your computer as a user that has administrator priveleges
    2. Store your Quicken data file under a folder specific to your user name or, if needed, for multiple users on the same computer in a shared folder"

Oddly that seems to have corrected itself.

When starting Windows Live Mail 2012 I "was" getting an error but I may have fixed that.

But the original problem remains: No matter what I try (run from a link, type in the address, use a search engine, try 3 different browsers) my puter refuses to go to Walmart or Target (the computer apparently has better taste than I have).

Tried tech support from the cable companyand all they could say is to take the computer to a repair shop. Called the ISP who had me reboot the computer, modem, router, then gave up and suggested I buy a Mac.

    Help!

In Control Panel, how are your Internet Options set? Can you post screenshots as attachments?

    Any particular tab or setting?

Connections. You may need to set up a new connection for the wifi on your desktop computer even though you connect via ethernet.

I see nothing here. I know my DNS connection is automatic if that helps.

OK, I think I found it. Both sites rely on cookies. In your Privacy tab, some first party cookies are blocked. You'll have to allow ALL First Party cookies. My Internet Options are set that way and when I went to Walmart.com and Target.com both sites' home pages came up.

Thanks but that did not help. Also--remember I'm having this problem in FireFox, IE AND Chrome.

That's why you would make any changes in Control Panel -> Internet Options. There's only one other thing I can suggest. Add Walmart and Target to your trusted sites in the Security tab. Beyond that, I'm out of suggestions.

Thanks for trying. Here's what happened: If I google target, the web address is www.target.com but if I put that into Trusted Sites I get the message "Sites added to this zone must use https:// prefix. The prefix assures a secure connection"
So I added https://www.target.com to Trusted Sites. Then I pasted that address into the browser (Chrome, IE) and got the attached warnings (and notice it crossed out the https) . If I just use target.com I still get a blank page

Does it go to Target if you click on Continue anyway?

    Nope. I get:
    Oh no,

something went wrong when we tried to [load this page/process your request].

Please try again. If the problem persists, please feel free to contact Target help.

Much like you, I had this exact same problem and tried everything that everyone else suggested such a running virus and malware scanners and adding those websites to the "trusted sites in the Security tab." None of these worked, but I did find a solution which another person in my same situation found to solve the problem.

If you're NOT behind a company firewall, try changing your DNS servers to:

    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

Here is a webpage which explains how to do this: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/fl/change-dns-servers-windows-7.htm

Credit goes to this forum page:

    Thanks.
I did try changing the DNS server but that did not work. This is my home computer btw. Tech support from the ISP said to leave the DNS on "automatic".
Made some progress with the windowssecrets forum you linked to. Turning off SSL3.0 in Internet Options/Advanced helped "a little" I can now click a link in bensbargains for example and get to the Target ad, but cannot get Target or Walmart directly or through a google search link.
Using the anonymizer links in that thread also allowed me to get to the sites. Will see what other suggestions they have over there.

I am having the same problem with Walmart and Target. Did you eventually fix the problem? I am actually a student studying Microsoft Networking and have sought help from instructors and fellow students, and so far no one can figure it out. It has become a huge inconvenience, being that it's Christmas time, and I do most of my shopping online. I have come to the conclusion that "Microsoft Works" is an oxymoron lol...
