    Hi All,
Have an old but very reliable Citizen ProLazer 6000 printer that works great. Best Printer I have ever owned. Upgraded to new computer with Win7. Cannot get the Printer installed. When I use the Wizard it does not even see the device. When I have the computer on, and I fire up the printer, I do not get a warning that a new device is found. It is hooked up right, but I cannot get the computer to see it. Win 7 does not even have Citizen in its list of printers, yet this company is still very much in business. They too however do not have drivers for this unit on their website.
I read a lot about downloading the wrong drivers from sources, and have looked at many, and am concerned about bringing problems to my computer. Where is a safe site to download printer drivers for this unit? I went to Driver Guru, and they show two drivers in the same pane, so I took them both, but am nervous about opening them.
Can anyone tell me step by step how to install this printer? Still trying to learn my way around Win7, so be gentle. :-o
    Thanks in Advance!

Try right clicking on your original driver/software and selecting Run in compatibility mode.

    Hi Mdonah,
I do not have the original software for this printer any more, no disk, nothing but what is left on my old computer, a Win2000 unit. I save all my disks, but this one is long gone thanks to an ex-wife, if you get my drift. But even if I had that disk, it would be drivers for Win2000.

So all I have is a printer plugged in to the new computer, and nothing to begin with. There are no old drivers in the new unit. In fact, the new unit cannot even see the printer, either as a printer, or even a device. You know when you plug something new into a computer you at least get a pop-up that something new has been added or recognized? I get nothing.
So, there is nothing to right click on. Wish it was that easy.

I guess if I had safe drivers from the web, I could install them and then try, but I am unsure about finding them. I read horror stories about bad driver downloads and want to avoid the grief if I can.

If you decide not to trust DriversGuru, you can try the site driverguide.com. It's a free membership site so you'll need to join. The site has been around a long time, has a decent webutation, and they scan driver uploads for malware. I'm a member, however I have not had a need to use the site in a very long time, so i suggest using the caution of scanning any downloaded file.
Citizen CLP-6000 Version 7.1.6 looks promising as it works with 64-bit Vista & 08 Server. As mdonah stated, run in compatibility mode.
Laser printing not just reliable, its economical.

    Thanks K,
I will check out the site you suggest, as that at least gives me some comfort in the downloads. I now see what mdonah is saying about running in comp mode, I get it now.
I still do not understand why I cannot get the computer to even see the device. Is there something I am doing wrong, or will that correct itself after I install a driver?
I am also trying to use the Wizard to update the Printer List, to see if they have this printer listed in an update someplace. However the thing will not ever update. It just keeps coming back and saying to to try later. I have playing with that for days, and I have tried the overall Windows Update, and it says I am current. What is the problem?

The purpose of the driver is to tell the OS how to communicate with that piece of hardware. Without a driver, it can't. The printer is old enough that it's driver is no longer included as part of a default Windows install and is no longer hosted on the Update server either, probably because there are no official Windows 7 drivers.

I had this issue with an HP Scanner. I upgraded my old computer to Windows 7 32 bit, and the old drivers for XP worked fine. When that computer finally crapped out, I tried hooking the scanner up to a PC running Windows 7 64bit and it was no go.

If you have Windows 7 32 bit, try the drivers that are on your Win 2000 machine. Just copy the folder to your new computer. You might have to manually install them.
