I used to be tech savvy

You want to know how to remind yourself to be humble? Buy a new phone.

I just went from an HTC Thunderbolt to a Droid Turbo. Pretty sure I summoned a demon instead of customizing a couple of the settings. LOL

Sgt. T- I just went from a dumb phone to a Java based touch screen phone. I'm just happy to have mp3's and videos on a memory card to watch @ lunch break in my worktruck so you are ahead of me on Savvy! Go get 'em.

LoL!..I don't even have a touch-screen, yet. My old Nokia E-71 is still serving well. - Except the keys are so teeny, I can hardly read them, witout my glasses, now. Time to upgrade, methinks.;):p

iPhone 6+ is the first phone I really like. Big enough for my gorilla hands and 65 year old eyes. So far battery life is stupid long, like 3 days with my normal use.
I was on the fence til son's Galaxy got hacked at DefCon. After that I waited for the iPhone to grow.
If Siri would just let me train her a bit on how I speak all would be perfect.
I did test a Windows phone, humiliating experience, kinda like opening DOS - it sat there defying me to do something intelligent.

Got my first touch screen a few weeks ago. LG 306G
It has so many things I never had before.
Made me feel old. :-o (only 66 !)
Doing better now, but these things weren't made with us in mind.

Have you ever seen an eight or ten year old with a Walkman ?

I now have that Right Said Fred song in my head (which is apt) "I'm to sexy for my iphone, I'm to sexy for my Smith and Weston...."

Indeed on walking and texting, dont think a lot of folk have actually seen the sky and clouds for years.

If they did they would have a small wheeled trolly to drag it around behind them.

Have to say tech in these respects have come on leaps and bounds, where as you'd say 15yrs ago have a Walkman (cassette tapes as well), a huge brick of a mobile phone, digital camera and to top it off a monster sized laptop to round off what you can do with the modern smartphone, that fits on your pocket.

Wife has one, its ok. I had the 2 and 3. I was just biding my time until something less bloated and smaller came out with competing specs.

    Introducing the Droid Turbo :p

We are reaching an understanding, and eventually I will come out on top. LOL The thing that's killing me is the buttons are in different places, and I'm fighting 3 1/2 years of muscle memory every time I do anything. And the whole thing where it uses the front camera to detect if you're looking at it so it won't dim the screen is handy, but pretty darn creepy.

If I had any doubts, however, the battery sold me. Left the house last night around 9ish with 52% battery. Used the phone a LOT while I was gone, mostly internet with some downloading of apps I used to have and still setting things up. Got home at 1ish with 33% battery remaining. Had I had my old phone, it would've died for good around 10:30 even if I wasn't using it much. I may even be able to leave the house without a portable charger now!

And going from an 8mp camera to a 21mp camera is nothing short of amazing!

LOL I remember a while back I think in Australia, a woman walked off a pier because she was texting...

A few years ago, a teenager in the town where I live drove her tiny little car into the rear end of one of those huge 18-wheel trucks, at the speed of 85 miles/hour... she was too busy checking Facebook on her phone to notice the truck had slammed the brakes. This was proven by the status update she posted to her Facebook timeline less than a minute before impact.

I'm torn between sympathizing with her family, and dismissing the situation for being a shining example of the modern urban version of natural selection. Any idiot should know that if you're driving on the freeway during rush hour, your focus had better be on the traffic around you and nowhere else.

There's a time and place for texting and social media, and it's not in the driver's seat of a car.

    Amen.

I rarely even talk on the phone when driving. I just ain't able to dial and drive... So I just drive.

Phone use of any sort while moving is illegal here in Cali, but you still see idiots texting and attempting to drive.
Then there is the guy in England that slammed into a truck while texting - on a motorcycle.

I am in love! Yesterday, while I was still tweaking and downloading and updating while texting and Facebooking...and then watched a movie on Netflix...My phone had been off the charger for about 16 hours. And the battery was at 63%. :heart

I updated from a Samsung to an HTC and the change of the button location bothers me some still. I have Android 4.4 on my Nexus Tablet, and thought I could ease into the customization. Apparently HTC has it a bit locked, and some apps will now not work on 4.4... sigh.

All in all I am happy with my updated battery life as well.

Spoken like a true geek! :-D

It challenged you for a short period and then you learned it well.

The newer cell batteries are so much better for sure.

More importantly, going from a 1450mah battery to a 3900mah battery is much better.

I had to type this as half awake I read tweaking as twerking and thought Beth what a new talent!

@Adryn - indeed 3900mah is what is needed in all new smartphones, iPhones are dismal in this area.

I read twerking too, thought it was just me.:-D Twerking is the word of 2014. Hopefully Miley cyrus will fall and break a leg this year, no one wants to see her twerk!

    Ohdeargod, NO! NO twerking!!! roflmao

As if I wasn't already overly happy with it, last night proved it's a keeper. I was working a hockey game, and our corner of the booth is known as the sucking black hole when it comes to cell phones. In about six square feet we have 6 computers and 2 wireless routers, and the whole thing is enclosed in thick cement block walls surrounded by open steel girders. I usually have zero signal, and I ALWAYS have to charge my phone by the end of the second period even if I take it off the charger just before I leave the house.

Last night I had full 4G LTE all night, and when I left the arena the battery was at 86%. :-D

Way OT, but this is the Lounge.. I went to a friend's house near Arkansas where cell phones just rarely get a signal if you go outside. My IPhone with Verizon had 5 bars.:cool

Thought about you the other day Sgt Tibbs. We had to do some work on a RV wrap, that won't fit in our shop, wont fit in the hanger my boss rents, was way to cold to do it outside (the vinyl tears too easily). So, boss rented the local Civic Center for a couple of days. Could not resist a little tire squealing center stage. :-D

Went to a lot of concerts there back in the 80's and early 90's, always thought it was huge. :-D It is tiny now.

How fun, Fred! I had a similar thing happen when I started working, where all the arenas I'd gone to things in as a patron were so very much smaller than I thought they were.

Although I will never forget the first time I stood center ice at Joe Louis Arena, looking up at all the Wings' banners. And then got to walk down the locker room hallway (although not into the locker room itself). That's also a small arena, but my god does it have presence! :-D

That is me. Just don't care about keeping up with the latest and greatest hardware. I used to keep up with the latest modified firmware to flash on the motherboards and such for the best overclock. Now, I just want to turn the thing on and use it.

The ultimate lazy is the interweb on my phone. I can post from anywhere. :-D

I HATE those keyboard ribbon cable things!

I just paid my niece's husband to put the new hard drive in my laptop because I didn't want to do it. And thank god, really... turns out the old one is 650GB and the new one is "only" 500GB, so the cloning software wouldn't do it properly and he had to do something else involving Linux that I barely understood as English. LOL

This phone, though! Now that I've made it bow to my wishes, we're gonna get along just fine. Even if it didn't have 847 things I love, the battery is totally worth it. I'm right now 1 day, 9 hours and change off the charger, regular use the whole time, and the battery is reading 27%. :-D
