I want to install 32-bit program on a Win7 Home Premium 64-bit PC. It is a program to run a embroidery machine that I have been running on WinXP. There is a free update for Win7 32-bit but not 64-bit.:(

I know some 32-bit programs install and work fine on 64-bit PC and others will need to be set to Compatible Mode and the right driver installed. I tried all of that and when I click on the icon it says software is not installed.

When install fails are there other options to install and run 32-bit programs on Win7 64-bit PC? Or possibly this program just won't work in Win7 64-bit?:confused

If the program was designed for 32-bit Windows, it should work fine with Windows 64-bit without any special "additions".
    You don't need a 64-bit version.

Maybe there was a problem with the install process and Not the program itself.
Try uninstalling the program and then rerun the installation program with "Run as Administrator"

    Hi

As mjnc mentions the 32bit software should install ok on 64bit as on a 64bit Windows PC there are two Program Files folders one for x86 (32bit apps) and the main one for native 64bit apps

Have a look in the Program Files (x86) folder and see if you can see the softwares folder, and the executable file to run the app, if so then the shortcut may just be not directing to the actual app. Can create a new shortcut.

If what mjnc doesnt work for you I would email the developer and ask for advice.

Thanks. I did installed and uninstalled the program with Revo Uninstaller more than once yesterday doing all the things mentioned like run as admin. in compatible mode and trying to install in program files(x86) before I posted.

The files were showing up n C drive but not in Program Files or in Program Files(x86). And like I said if clicked on desktop icon or the application file in C drive I got message saying not installed. Nothing I tried worked so it stumped me. By the way on WinXP that is where the files show up also.

Did a Google search and saw lots of folks with win7 64-bit was having same problem. Possibly those who did not have a problem have win7 32-bit pc. It still works OK on winXP but I won't be going online to download new designs because of security risk. :(

    Thanks for the replies.

Can't you download them on Win 7 and transfer them?

It may help to resolve this if you could give us the name of the program and point us to the download. But from your description I have a feeling that the Win 7 version isn't an installer at all, just a patch file, and you could test that by installing it yet again and just replacing the program's executable with the downloaded Win 7 version. Try it - let us know.

You need to install this app in what's called "Compatibility Mode". When you do, you can select the OS you would like to emulate for the installation and regular running of the app.

I can but the Win7 update would give my machine features it does not have now. One of the reasons I wanted to get it installed on Win7, that and security reasons.

The Futura software CD came with the machine when I bought it. And yes I think the Win7 32-bit file is a update patch that you install after you install the original CD. If I could get it to install I then the Win7 32-bit update might install and work. At least that is what I was hoping.

You have to have the machine hooked up to a computer with USB for the software to install and the machine has to be connected to the computer to use it as a embroidery machine. So I don't think it's not possible for someone else to test the software for me without the machine.:( Here is the link. http://futura-support.com/products/ce-200/software It is the second download there. Version: Installing CE-200 version 1.0.0.0, or 1.0.0.1, or 1.0.0.2

As you suggested I will give it a try installing the Win7 update alone and see what happens. Thanks!

mechanic thanks but that was one of the first things I tried.

You don't 'install' the Win 7 file, you literally copy and paste it from wherever you downloaded it to into the folder where the program is installed, replacing the earlier version already there. I believe the program has installed to C:\ rather than into Program Files, and that shows how ancient it is ;)

OMG! I've just ploughed through the Download Instructions :eek It ends with Singer is sewing made easy. I don't think so.

Perhaps my simple suggestion for patching may not work, in which case I can only wish you good luck trying to follow that through - all 44 steps of it!
