Tried to run Windows Update from Win 8.1 and receive message "There is a problem checking for Updates" . I click on Get More Info and "Get Help with Error 800B8001" is displayed.

    I found http://support2.microsoft.com/?kbid=947821 and so I ran
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

I have attached corresponding CBS.log. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

    Hi

Double check your systems date and time is correct as you log has it at 2014-11-05 and with wrong date and time Windows Update will not work or error like this (maybe different codes for various D&T errors) IGNORE me on date and time, checked the bottom of the logging for date and time again,

    you could also try

Copy the below to a notepad file and click File > Save As and in the save As Type dropdown choose All Files and then name the file WUFix.reg (important to add the .reg) and click Save

Then Right Click and Run as Administrator the batch file and then reboot PC and try Windows Update again

Did not see Run As option with right click. However, I tried to run WUFix.reg from Administrator: Command Prompt window and got this error: "Cannot import C:\WUFix.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."

I tried Windows Troubleshooter. It reported as fixed:
Windows Update Error 0x80070057. However, when I tried to perform Windows Update afterwards, received the same error. 800B8001.

I then ran sfc/scannow from adminstrator command line prompt and received this message:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

    I have attached CBS.log.

Thanks. tried to rerun WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab followed by reboot. No luck. Guess I now have to refresh/reset. :-(

Oh I'm a nut, don't know why I had it in my head that the files needed a .reg extension, they need a .bat one! sorry!

You can try the full manual fix HERE before you decide to refresh.

WUFix.bat didn't help, but that wonderful link for the manual fix seems to have done the trick.

It was a zillion steps and I was skeptical, but it worked. Now the system is downloading a million updates.
