Something strange on desktop

If " software " is not the right forum for this post please move it to the proper forum or tell me which forum it should be on and I will re-post it.

Today I noticed a strange little icon in the bottom right of my laptop screen
Toshiba Win7; if other details are needed I can include them as well.

I left click it and it moves. I tried putting it in the recycle bin but it didn't go into the bin. I moved it to the middle of my screen to look at it closer. It is a rectangle, about 3/4 of an inch long; top to bottom. It is about 1/4 of an inch right to left. It is mostly DARK GREY there is a small piece across the bottom that is lighter gray. There seems to be a part of a letter in light gray towards the right side middle.

As I write this now it sits on top of the majorgeek page. It sits on top of anything on my desktop.

I tried right clicking but no choices are offered.

I also tried the magnifier but I can't look at this monolith as an item. At best I can magnify the whole screen and the item also expands but I can not see it any better than I explained.

Comodo has a floating box that has the same colors that is in this strange rectangle but that box moves in front of this page or behind it depending on clicking on it. But this monolith stays on top of every thing on my desktop and can not be deleted.

Can this be malware or something worse?

That's it! Amazing that "The Tick" had exactly the same item on the same day as I did. His post almost sounds like mine.

My Laptop is a Toshiba as I mentioned Model C655D
AMDE-300 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.30 GHz
4.00 GB ( 3.60 usable )
64-bit OS

I'll need to read the links posted to see what else I need to add to my list of hardware/software that you need to see.

I will also read other suggestions.
