Ever Tried To Find a Pancake Styled Holster For a Ruger Single Six?

I contacted my usual holster maker, and he does not make one. Finally found one. Got it today. The gun I bought from a friend, it is .22 or .22 mag, the gun was made in the year of my birth, so I thought I would have some fun getting a Texas holster theme. ;)

This gun, if carried, actually has to be carried with the hammer on an empty chamber, so a five shot. It has no transfer bar, so if dropped, can shoot. A friend of mine found this out the hard way. :cry He learned his lesson.

    You're turning into Dirty Harry!

Knew people in Corinth Ms worked in shop making reproductions of war and historical items. Holsters were one line of work. I had a copy made for a 6-shot 357. They work off of pictures or drawing or original found items. Also do custom and requests. The pic looks like a nice pair.

    :-D

No, not turning into Dirty Harry, I am a proud disciple of the great prophet John Moses Browning. ;)

I have always wanted a 'cowboy' style revolver, I wanted a .22, and this deal came through. I am looking into getting one like it in .44 mag or 454 Casull or some ungodly caliber, just cause I can.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.454_Casull

Yes, I 'need' one of these. Lots of bears around here. ;)

As far as drawing a loaded gun, I have taken classes from 2 instructors. If you do it right, you are safe, if you don't, you may ventilate yourself. The single action gun pictured is actually the safest to holster (as long as you don't have it cocked.) as it will only fire if you cock the hammer and pull the trigger. Anyway, it is a fun gun. Looking into getting some custom grips for it soon.

Why do I have a sudden need for boots and a cowboy hat? :-D

I saw the word pancake and though oooh pancakes!! Imagine my disappointment when I realized this thread has nothing to do with food. :-D

Who in their right mind would order just one pancake? Pancakes, now we talking food! :-D

Well, now I want pancakes and a new pancake holster . . . with syrup (the pancakes, that is . . . )

Fred, ya mean your new holster holds up to SIX Pancakes!!??...:yum:drool
Would that be before or after syruping?...:yum

  9. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Just 5 'pancakes' in this one if in the holster. And I use oil, instead of syrup. :-D

That revolver is old school, if you drop it fully loaded, it is likely to fire. So 5, not 6.

  10. Phantom

    Phantom Brigadier Britches

Oh, I see. But you can always roll up #6 Pancake and put it in your mouth - like a cigar. Clint Eastwood style!...roflmao.

I do like pancakes, and a cigar every once in a while. Now, I can have both! Thanks! :-D

Get to a Waffle House or IHOP then. Unless you want to cook them yourself! :-D

  14. Fred_G

Heck, we have at least one IHOP, and probably 4 Waffle House places around here. Maybe why so many people are fat around here? Have never been to the IHOP, and has been many years since I went to the Waffle House. I learned to cook. :-D

Wasn't this thread about a gun or something? :-D

I know some US communities from 2nd 3rd 4th + generations still observe this day, but wondered if he general populous do or am I just shooting up the wrong tree (see covered guns and pancakes)

Never heard of it, but pancakes are always good. Never been a big Lent person, must be more of a Catholic thing.

I can see the calorific count in them from here 1000s of miles away! oooh now one of those would really go nice with coffee as you are having.

With my loss of sweet tooth over the years, could only have one of those now and again, the one near back left side (chocolate and nuts?) would be for me. Noticed the other day while shopping in the city, not something I do much these days, but wanted a new watch, but besides that I noticed a Krispy Creme shop, didnt know we had one... they any good?

    MMMM must try one.

Oh yeah many a gem found in stores and garage/boot sales.

The one I got was a modern one (see attached below)

Yeah I think so but then again you can likely pop a donut in Fred's holster and see if he notices on a quick draw as I could time it.. dadah! (got everything in)

Snow is not that big of a deal around here, but the ice will get you! My UPS package from Arkansas is delayed due to weather.

I got the smarts to kick back with the grill and adult beverages during ice storms.

On a serious note and on the topic of holsters I can imagine there are more accidents with them than I know about, just this story caught the UK News headlines Bra Holster

Is this common? not with this type but any? or just bad luck and lax safety by the user?

  30. DavidGP

DavidGP MajorGeeks Forum Administrator - Grand Pooh-Bah Staff Member

Cheers on watch Muskie, me too on design

Me to on looking at those holsters the only way would be to be twisting it barrel upwards, unless barrel is facing upwards already, thats a design fault to start with.

  31. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Holster accidents are unfortunately very common. Holstering and drawing a loaded gun is something I sought out training for. Several things can go bad, and I don't want to ventilate myself.

As far as the bra holster, just seems like a horrible idea, but not my department. ;)

'Never point a gun at anything you don't want to destroy'. I won't carry appendix style because of this rule, I kinda like my dangly parts.

Any holster adjustments should be done with an empty holster, (or a superchecked safe gun) but a gun pointing at your head? :confused A loaded one at that?rolleyes

Lots of YouTube videos of people shooting thereself with guns.

You folks know I love guns, but I really like the safe use of guns.

I just know there are better options for carry that don't involve pointing a loaded gun at your head.

Well didn't think it was your dept the Bra area, unless.... ok wont go there as forum is "PG"

I'd kind of agree with you and weird when you see the crims on TV shows they shove a gun down the front of their pants, I think wooo hello fella do you want to loose something!? :-D

Seems a no brainer to be honest

Indeed joking aside on some of the gun threads I know you advocate safe use of guns and I know from your past posts you go on courses for this as well and that's admirable, sadly many do not think like you and this is were accidents like this happen.

@Dya... sorry dear ate the pancakes the other day here, sadly 2 of my nieces were staying so they scoffed the lot.

My first thought was why was safety off? did what she used not have one and thats an safety issue

  35. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

A lot of guns don't have a separate safety lever. A couple of mine don't have a manual safety. Most of those are 'striker fired' guns. Pretty much an internal striker verses a more traditional hammer, like on most revolvers and guns like the 1911. The trigger has to be pulled to fully cock the gun, and then the trigger must be pulled to a certain point before the gun fires.

So even though they don't have a traditional manual safety, they have a few internal safeties.

That is why a proper holster is essential. It should totally cover the trigger, so nothing (finger, key, pocket lint, corner of a jacket... can come in contact with the trigger.

The real safety with a gun is the one between your ears.

As far as the bra holster, you can google "flashbang bra holster" if you want to see the proper orientation of the gun and the female parts. :-D

The gun should not point up towards the head. Talk about some thread drift... :cool

I had not read this thread until tonight because I thought it was about guns and holsters and I had nothing to add th that topic.:confused... BUT now I see it is about jelly donuts, pancakes, and southern drivers and I know about all of these things.;)
Raspberry jelly donunts are my fav:yum, Krusteaz Buttermilk Light & Fluffy Pancake Mix is the very best store bought mix there is;), and Laura is correct southerners don't know how to drive in snow, we call in sick to work so we don't have to drive on it.LOL

So I'd take it Fred that basically she should not have had the gun in the holster to start with, while adjusting?

Hard lesson for many to learn and sad for her family.

Hear you loud and clear on that one Fred

  42. Fred_G

That is hard to say. I often adjust my holster with a loaded gun. But, all I can adjust is where the holster is on my belt, or the tightness of the belt. This can be done by just pushing on the outside of the holster, nowhere near the trigger, which of course is covered by the holster.

Again, I don't know much about that type of holster. I am assuming it is kydex, and those often have one or more screws to adjust the tension on the firearm.

Just me, but doing any screw manipulations on a holster, I do it with no gun in the holster.

I always picture Mr. Murphy sitting beside me whenever I do stuff with guns. He loves to jump in and F some stuff up. :-D

Fred thanks for the info as you know us in the UK are not gun accustomed in general daily life, so the info you post is really helpful to me to understand.
