I've attached my computer info, and a picture of the "error" message I'm getting. I've installed software before, and never had an issue. The one thing that is different today then yesterday, is that I activated Java for pogo.com which I didn't like, so now I disabled Java thinking that was the problem.

I'm trying to install a free, budget software. If someone could help I'd appreciate it. I'm wondering if the Java is the issue? I can't think if anything else that's different.

This won't let me insert the snapshot of my laptop info so here is the link, apologies, denise

The second snapshot says it all - you need an internet connection to install the software.

What is the name of the program?

You should take care when downloading from that site.

Don't click on the Download Now. Underneath it, it says Installer Enabled. You are going to get a load of :crap on your PC.

Below the File Size, click on Direct Download Link.

I don't think you are solving my issue, but I am willing to give it a go. Where shall I download from?

I only have the option to click "run", no save-as on the cnet download ok. I don't have the option for a direct download link.

The software is actually called Accounts and Budgets free.
I googled that name and got to the company who makes the program, usually the safest place to download something.
    http://www.alauxsoft.com/software-accounts-budget/p04-overview
and there are links for the free and paid programs.
Well, I just checked the link and they have you. The download link sends you back to CNet! :(

I'm off to see if a safe site carries the download. (I NEVER download from CNet).

If I manage to find one, I'll post the link.

I went to another page and this page, the download link does not send me to CNet.

This may not be the free version.

I don't know what the problem with cnet is. I've downloaded almost every piece of software I have from them, never had any issues. Must be something new. I never really liked the guy on there that was supposedly there to help, but I'll wait and see if I hear more from you.

The link I provided, don't click the first Download. Scroll down and you'll see 8 more links. Click the first Download. That will download the free edition of version 6.0.6.

    The file name is 'installbudfree606.exe'.

    Ok Eldon,

I'll try it, thank you much. Sometimes people misread each other online, and I thought you were giving me a hard time. I do apologize, it seems you're not, Denise

OMG, it worked perfect Eldon!! In all these years, I never had an issue with cnet?? Thank you so much, I won't use them anymore. I just can't believe that, and I don't understand it either, but I'll do some reading (on cnet) to see why that happened, Denise

Scroll down to vulnerabilities in foistware
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Download.com

Other sites to avoid: Brothersoft, Softonic and Tucows (I used to download from Tucows)

Safe Download sites: Publisher's site (but you might find that even these sometimes bundle things with the installer), MajorGeeks, Softpedia, Techspot, FileHippo (for some things; some may contain adware)

Note: Always do a Custom install and read what is in the install.

Unchecky is a program that automatically unchecks/unticks all those extra boxes.

Just be aware that cnet is not like it use to be. Just have to be cautious. I prefer MajorGeeks, but they dont' have everything. Awesome that you posted here to ask for help.

    Ok tf,

love your user subtitle, LOL:) I do like how MG has the downloads. I noticed on the ones I looked at, they have a couple of different download sites to choose from. Also, I don't have any confusion on where the dang "download" buttons are;) Thanks much, denise
