Blocked images in e-mail

I copied (highlight and Ctrl-C) an e-mail message to me that I had saved in 2011. I then created a new e-mail message today by pasting (Ctrl-V) that data and sent it to three other people. The original message contained several photos. I am using Windows 8.1 and Live Mail as the e-mail program.

One of the recipients was my wife and we share the same e-mail address so I saw the message in our In Box and was able to view the complete message with no problem.

However she is still using XP SP3 and Outlook Express on her machine. She was able to access the message but all the photos were blocked with the little square containing the x symbol.

Another of the recipients has e-mailed me saying she could not view any of the photos either. I do not know yet her OS and e-mail program. The third person has not sent any info on her status.

Went I sent the email out I received a notice that one of more of the photos was no longer available. I counted them in the original (2011) message and then in my outgoing message and found there were two missing in the outgoing message. That leads me to think the photos are not in the message but links to items out in the Internet world.

Can anybody help me with advice on how to enable the recipients to access these linked photos?

    Thank you very much.

And this is a follow up to my original message.

I created the outgoing message again and sent it to my wife. Remember we have the same email address. After it got delivered I looked at it with my machine (Win 8, Live Mail) and all was good. I then asked her to look at it on her machine (SP, Outlook Express). Again no photos. I then went back to my machine and tried to look at it.

And the message had been altered by her machine. There were no photos, only the small squares with the x.

Again thank you for helping me with my frustration.

I use Yahoo and in settings, you can block images.

Check her settings and see if she blocked hers.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Hers is through G-Mail and I checked the blocking option for Outlook Express. It was not on. However she says there are other messages where the external photo is blocked.

I will look in the options for G-Mail.

    Again thank you

The other two recipients have not been able to see the photos either. Both are using i-phone 6 devices.

    Thank you

You said you copied and pasted the old email. Try forwarding the message and see if you have the same problem.

I forward the original message. On my machine (Win 8.1, LiveMail) I received blocked photos, however the photos were in a slide show strip at the top of the screen. On my wife's machine (XP SP3, Outlook Express) the photos are blocked but they are there as separate attachments.

Stranger and stranger. I am beginning to think I am in Wonderland.

    Again thank you,
    Mike

Now I'm confused. If the photos are in a strip or as attachments, they aren't blocked. Also, Outlook Express is ancient and it has very few settings irregardless of which webmail you use. Are you using an email client on your PC?

We are on a satellite system. Our ISP is WildBlue.net (Excede). Our email account is on their server. I use Live Mail and she uses Outlook Express to easily view the messages. We can also go to the isp and view the message but can only delete or reply to them there. With the Live Mail and Outlook Express programs we are able to manipulate the messages, delete, move, save, forward, etc.

I went to the isp and looked at the message in question. The body of the message where the 20 photos would be is blank, the photos are listed as attachments. In Live View there are place holders in the body of the message for each of the photos but the actual images are in a slide show format at the top of the screen. In the Outlook Express view the body contains the place holders and then lists the 20 images as attachments. So the difference between the two programs is basically the format of the display. Both machines have the use place holders option in the Internet set to off and both have display external data.

My question is why is a message received in 2011 formatted so much different in 2015, especially using the same OS and email as in 2011, XP and Outlook Express? And is there any thing I can do to fix it.

    Thank you
    Michael

I think this is your answer. I often receive emails from publishers that have the images in the body of the message. But those I receive from friends always have the images as attachments. If you look at email clients like Mozilla Thunderbird and Microsoft Office Outlook, there are many options how to format an email. But, when you use free webmail (Gmail, Yahoo mail, etc.) the options are limited. Although your email accounts are with your ISP, the images still show as attachments. Maybe have a word with them? Then again, it doesn't really matter where your email account is, but which email client you're using.

Alternatively, have a look at Mozilla Thunderbird. It's free and there's a community of supporters. In the mean time, have a look at the forwarding options in LiveMail and Outlook Express.

FYI I'm going to have a look if I can send an email with EssentialPIM with an image in the body. Will let you know.

Ok. I just sent myself an email with an image in the body using EssentialPIM and it was received that way*. In the email client the sender must click the option to insert an image, not to attach an image. Also, have another look at the settings if images are not perhaps blocked.

*I used EssentialPIM, a free Personal Information Manager that includes an email client, to send an email from my Yahoo Mail account to my Microsoft Mail (outlook.com) account.
